This is what makes walking toward Sleeping Beauty Castle so special. To approach the drawbridge and see the carrousel spinning while looking through the castle entryway is pure magic. Especially after dark when everything is lit up. If you time it right you may see one of the many walk-around characters going along for the ride. What a great photo opportunity! Of course, riding the carrousel puts you in the center of all of the charm Fantasyland has to offer. You can't beat that.

I gotta love this one. I recently got a major shock when doing some reading on it. It was originally a menagerie machine, meaning it had other types of animals. Walt had it changed to all horses. Most of the extra horses came from Coney Island but apparently when the shipment arrived they were still several horses short.
Walt went to his friends, the Whitney Brothers, owners of San Francisco's Playland who also dealt in spare amusement parts. The Whitney's were my cousins. Apparently three horses that are now at Disneyland were shipped from the Whitney's. Obvioulsy this makes it extra special too me. I just wish it was possible to identify which horses though.

I always thought this ride was "just a carousel," but I was just reading about it. There is a lot of history in this ride. It is from 1875 and the horses are hand picked and painted. Walt took great care with this one and the Disneyland staff have continued his good work. I think this ride is one of the most important in the park. Look into it and you'll enjoy it a great deal more.

Beautiful but just a carrousel.

I am a sucker for carrousels and merry-go-rounds. I always ride the one with the bald eagle on the back of the saddle, don't know why, it's just the one I always pick.

I have to say even though it's mostly there for
the kids, this is a favorite. Gotta ride it every time
I go just to feel like a kid again without looking
stupid. Best to ride at night, line is short and
lights are on.

This was the traditional "last stop" for my husband and me at Disneyland. Many romantic memories!

Originally adorned with original wooden horses from Coney Island's carousel, the King Arthur Carousel is a beautiful attraction in the middle of Fantasyland. A pleaser to millions of all ages, its awesome soundtrack is a hallmark of Fantasyland.
