My wife & I generally enjoy going to the Derby at least twice a year. However, this past October (mid-October 2009) The Brown Derby, as well as MANY other restaurants in each of the theme parks, was poorly run. We've been going to WDW 3 times a year for the past 8 years - 1 of the 3 times annually is ALWAYS during Wine & Food Fest. This time the restaurants (including the Derby) were NOT taking walk-ins. If you didn't have a reservation (even for just 2 of us) they wouldn't seat you or even take your name. OK, I understand... But here's the part THEY don't understand. We can SEE into The Derby. It was two thirds Empty WITH waiters standing around. Does this make sense? It happned at Derby, and at the Itialian place behind Muppet 3-D. NO Walk-ins. But 1/2 empty and wait staff standing around! At least at Sci-Fi (which is 1/4 the size of the other places and I could see it was FULL) took our names and told we could expect to eat in 45 minutes.

We love this place - this time is the first time we took our 5 year olds. They enjoyed it also - although the children's menu selection is similar to others in the park, both thought it was different on how the plates appeared (very appealing for them). For us - appitzers and desserts are a must when we go here. This is one of the better restaurants at WDW in our opinion

This is some of the best food in WDW! No doubt, it is a touch pricey, but for a nice treat it is worth it. I actually think it is a good value to do the Fantasmic Pkg here.

Hint:go to the BD around Fantasmic seating time and get reserved seating thru the BD after your diner. The food is very good(but expensive-what else is new). The old Hollywood atmosphere is a flash from the past(if you remember old Hollywood) otherwise it's just a nice restaurant.

Food is superb, but the wait staff is lacking. I have eaten at BD many times, and have yet to have a great server. It's annoying to see others seated after you, only to see them served first. I don't know why WDW can't hire staff who care the way Walt would have liked. The lack of service seems to be pervasive throughout the parks. There used to be a pianist, who dressed in period clothing, and softly played the piano and occasionally sang. It was unobtrusive and added to the feel of the restaurant. Like other service, this has disappeared. The Cobb salad is my favorite and although I am slightly annoyed by the service, the food makes up for it.

Great food and extremely professional service. The decor is very fun, I assume it is very similar to the original Brown Derby, and certainly keeps with the original deco feel of the Studios. The Cobb salad is a must here, and there are a few variations. The cocktails are great and the desserts very tempting. Though there are of course many children here, this restaurant feels much more grown up.
