I just took my kids to "Dinosaur". It was a visually stunning movie, with surprise after surprise. I cannot believe what they can now accomplish with computer animation. The story is only O.K., but the film has a nice message and it teaches it well. One warning, my children are five and four, and I nearly had to leave the movie. The carnotaurs are really frighting, and my little girl had to be held whenever they appeared. So consider what your kids are used to, and what they can tolerate before you go. However, don't miss seeing this movie, it is really something. I too saw it opening day at the first showing at the El Capitan Theater. Wow, I was impressed. It was fun to watch, and you really do get involved in it. When the carnotaurs followed them into the rain and then into the cave, I really did feel myself tense up. And the Dinosaur experience next door was really cool. My boys really enjoyed it. The audio-animatronic animals were fun, including one that spits water, and one allosaur that comes out at you when set off by a motion sensor. Go see the movie and enjoy! I saw this opening day at The El Capitan theater in Hollywood. The movie made me think I was actually watching dinosaurs within their natural habitats! It was incredible. Even better yet, I was standing in line behind a Disney Studio animator who gave me some great insight. If you ever get a chance to see a movie at The El Capitan, you should definately go! The theater is awesome, and this time, after the movie, we saw "The Dinosaur Experience". There were animatronic dinosaurs, interactive games, and behind the scenes information. I had a great time! It was well worth my $12 ticket. Mixed review for me. The CGI-live action effects were outstanding. I thought the story was fairly well done. After reading Roger Ebert's review, I guess I have some of his same questions. I almost think the film could have been more compelling if the Dinosaurs did not talk--if a narrator told a story to which we were witness. Anyway, the movie is surely worth seeing and is a nice addition to the Disney library of family films. I thought overall it was a pretty good film, if you take into account it's just Tarzan meets Land Before Time meets Lion King with computer animation. But otherwise (and some of the scientific inaccuracies) I thought it was a good film. Incredible animation. I too forgot that I was watching an animated film. Only one problem.... if you saw The Land Before Time, then you already know the story. An absolutely wonderful film, with awesome effects, memorable characters, a thrilling score and a great message about banding together to survive, despite differances. About 20 minutes into the film, I forgot I was watching animation, it was that realistic. I highly recommend it! I saw the movie at the first available screening and I absolutely loved it! The effects were out of this world and the plot kept you on the edge of your seat through the whole movie. I don't understand why so many people are giving mixed reviews, I woudn't change one thing about the movie. You absolutely must see this film! Visually stunning! Definatley worth ticket-price. It's really a fairly emotional movie, and with really spectacular music to draw you in. Every makes a big deal about talking dinosaurs, but (as ToonKirby pointed out in the Message Boards) it's better than the other option- narration. Excellent voice tallents, good story, and, unlike the reviewers, I thought the funny parts were funny. Dinosaur is a fun summer popcorn movie. It's no Tarzan or Toy Story 2, but it's fun nonetheless.
