I loved the movie Alot most of all I viewed this film yesterday and greatly enjoyed *most* of it. The wonderful watercolor backgrounds really establish the atmosphere of Hawaii. The characterization of Lilo is superb, and Stitch's persona is handled well for the most part. However, I really could have done without Stitch's picking his nose with his tongue--- that one got quite a few "ugh"'s from the audience (why do writers/producers decide to include such unnecessarily repulsive/vulgar moments for otherwise endearing characters/movies?). BTW: my daughter didn't leave the movie theater that excited about the movie. To her, it was like any TV show. Now - Ariel - she is completely fascinated with her. I saw this movie June 21 and didn't leave feeling that it was all that great like Mulan, Little Mermaid, Aladdin, etc. The drawings seemed blurry to me (I'm not an artist - just looking at it from a regular person point of view). Also, the plot was a bit weak, disjointed, and at times a bit too serious for kids (my DD is 4 years old). I thought that there was quite a bit of hitting in this movie too which is not reminiscent of past Disney movies. Seemed like the fast-paced action in this movie was geared for ADD kids and teenagers with a commercial-like 5 second sound bites. And I seriously miss the musical aspect of past Disney films. Maybe it's not "hip" any more for teenagers to hear music in films, but I think Disney is making a big mistake by trying to expand their audience to adults and teenagers. By doing this, they are not setting up for the next generation and are forcing kids to be cynics and realists. I want my daughter to dream and have an imagination. I loved this movie! I can't really understand people who go to a cartoon with the view of critiqing it. It's a cartoon, meant to be light, fun and mabye a little touching. I thought this was such a great movie. It was everything a Disney movie is supposed to be, and I left having enjoyed every second, and trying to figure out when I could find time to see it again. I've been waiting for this movie for a long time, and generally I'm dissappointed when I let myself build up to seeing a movie, but Lilo and Stitch was way better than I even expected. My husband loved it also, and has been talking like Stitch since we saw it! I recomend it for everyone, even if you don't have kids(like us) and I guarantee you'll love it. How could you not! You can't talk about animation in a vacuum and so, alas, I must needs bring up the inevitable comparison of "Lilo&Stitch" and that old landmark "The Lion King". Lilo is so cute and so is Stich I love this Movie so Much I am reserving my copy of the dvd at the Disney Store as soon as I can this is the best movie my new favorite movie i love. I am a huge Disney fan but my father is not so I was totally thrown for a loop when he agreed to go see the movie on opening weekend no less full of the crowds he hates so much . Low and behold he actully enjoyed it and evn laugh out loud at many parts(i.e:stitch playing out godzilla in S.f) That says alot about how wonderful and funny this film is I have seen it twice and plan to see it again I just love the little blue guy. Although the storyline was a bit thin and, at times, disjointed, the film's wonderful characters, rich settings, laugh-out-loud comedy, and heart more than made up for it. THIS is a perfect example of what Disney does best. This movie is proof that when Disney corporate leaves the animators pretty much alone to create something the animators REALLY like, the result is nothing short of a masterpiece. Easily the best Disney film in years...Lilo and Stitch has it all. A heart-tugging story of acceptance and the importance of family, daringly different and frighteningly real characters, big laughs, tear-jerkers and GORGEOUS animation (this includes the lush, beautiful watercolor backgrounds). Six stars out of five! I thought I would really like this film after reading a positive review from a critic I usually agree with...I was wrong. I LOVED it! I will go so far as to say this was one of my, if not my favorite Disney film. I think a lot of that is simply being such a refreshing story and characters that are not perfect, but you really believe in them and care about all of them. Yes, it did start out a little slow, but once the credits started, it really got going. I thought it was very smart going with a traditional animation style in space and going for a more pastel watercolored look once the characters were on the Islands. Lilo at times sounds like one of those funny cute talking kids from a "Peanuts" cartoon and is adorable. Stitch can be hilarious from his crazy laughs at first when he is free(and wow is he fast), to very sweet when he learns about "ohana". Nani and David were almost just as good characters, too. This movie, as a critics review said, has a "lot of heart" and that is so true. It is NOT sappy, but has a simple truth, belonging and family that all can appreciate, along with moments of inspired and fitting Hawaiian and Elvis music and humor. My perception in the theater was that adults probably liked it as much or possibly even more than some of the children. A definite "A"! This movie is so cute. Lilo is a true little girl, not one of the perfic disney princes, more real. In some parts it makes you think about family and almost makes you cry. Well, I am one of the biggest Disney fans I know. I visit WDW and DLR at least twice a year. Love the movies, and the product line. So,... FINALLY!! Disney has a new hit! I believe this is the must see movie of the summer. Stitch's behavior suprised me during the first half of the movie.. seemed too violent. But any person (or alien) can change - and Stitch is very lovable at the end. I was itnrigued by Lilo and would love to see more adventures of this "small and broken " family ... I typically do not like sequeals but, the characters in this one cry out to me .. I want to see more!!Fantastic!! I went to this movie with my two sisters -- all three of us are young adults. We all loved the movie. Wonderful movie. The story is great, so are the characters. Parents: If you have kids 6 and under, soothe them in the beginning, because it kind of is intense and the content of talk and tone seems like something out of the other non-Disney action films. But, it will get better. And it does. Now, the two that are sent to get Stitch, Jumba and Pleakly are always there to help you recover from the "emotional" scenes. That's why they are my two favorite characters. It is a great film and extremely recommended for your kids. It is better than putting them to sleep with "Spirt" or inducing them to watch even more TV with "Hey Arnold" and the Powerpuff Girls. The best animated movie of the summer. Salutations All, My wife and I just took our two daughters (ages 9 and 12) to see Lilo and Stitch. We all loved it! So did everyone in the theatre, girls AND boys. The adults we spoke with loved it too! I think Disney has a HIT with this one. Great story, great laughs, "tug at your heartstrings" moments, and a great soundtrack featuring The King. It is also a beautifully drawn movie, a joy to look at and watch. Go see this movie now, you'll love it, we did! The spaceship battles seemed just a tad "Saturday morning cartoonish". I wish all the space scenes used the same level of graphics quality as is represented by the watercolors illustrating the film's beautiful view of Hawaii.
Overall, I do recommend this movie. Nevertheless, it could have been much better.

What I will say is that not since "The Lion King" have I seen as harmoniously melded CGI and traditional handrawn. Computers are used to enhance the animation and are most noteworthy in the "action sequences" (spaceships and surfboards. My goodness, how funny that sounds.) In other words, computers are used to compliment, not overwhelm, as I feel they did from time to time in "Tarzan" during tree action sequences, for example.
Plotwise, "Lilo&Stitch" is not as polished a product as "The Lion King": there are some outrageous plot points towards the end in terms of resolution--all though I was won over by the bold-facedly ridiculous way they dealt with it ("He's very persuasive" and Mr. Bubble's "past" come to mind) it still feels just a touch disjointed.
In other ways, though, I think "Lilo&Stitch" has an edge on "The Lion King". For one thing, "The Lion King" plays the part of a Charleton Heston "Ten Commandments". It is heavy, epic and epochal. That is a good and very suitable feel for TLK, which deals with rather lofty thematic material. But for "Lilo&Stitch", the emphasis is just a touch more on the characters: their personality quirks, their strengths and their weaknesses as individuals, and the ways in which they relate to each other.
People have talking about warmth versus sap. I think the "ohana" line is used once to much, but I agree: "Lilo&Stitch" is not a sappy movie. Rather, it is a genuine movie. These characters are lovingly crafted, and they are some of the realest characters I've ever seen come out of the studio. If you want to know about the overall tone of the movie, I think the best effort of earlier years to compare "Lilo&Stitch" to is not "The Lion King" but "Dumbo." And I'm not talking about the animation style and the much-vaunted watercolors. I'm talking about the story: its simplicity, its veracity and above all, its heart.

It is by far the best movie since The Lion King, and the simplier animation style is actually much of the charm of this film. The creators of this movie (Sanders and DuBlois) should take a major bow for creating the following: 1) realistic, believable human characters; 2) wonderful character interaction; 3) the most rascally, yet loveable character since the heyday of Warner Brothers animated shorts; 4) very effective use of music; 5) fabulous watercolor-painted backgrounds; and 6) an ending that no only tugs your heartstrings but also sums up everything GREAT about this movie.
This animated feature richly deserves multiple Oscar nominations next February, including (dare I say it) Best Picture--it is THAT good.

Lilo and Stitch. I fell asleep. Twice. The story was a boring as watching larvae hatch. I didn't care too much about the characters, and found their messed up lives to be a result of wanting to be victims. That was more than uniniteresting. The direction was so sloppy, as well. The opening sequence went forever until the credits rolled. Not that there are rules in this world, but I had no sense at that point how the story was too unfold. So, after each set back for the girls, I became numb. Didn't know which set back was to be the last one before things got better, and frankly, i didn't care anymore. Instead of things getting worse, they just repeated the same problems over and over. I began to wonder if the characters and the creators were just bored. I found the drooling in the opening to be as repulsive as Shrek breaking wind in a pond for fish. I guess the Academy Award people have set the precendent. Animation awards go to the least interesting story, with the most vulgarity. I think the movie was marketed well, in that the only way to get people interested in this movie, is to re-run classic moments from cherished films, and insert Stitch. The posters with the angry Disney characters was also appropriate. If I were a famous Disney character, I would also be insulted that this Stitch was joining the ranks. Better luck on the next one Disney.

Lilo is a wonderful character. And I knew I would love stitch...but it was Nani who suprized me as a great character. To me, Nani was the 3rd most important character in the flick, and she seems to have been kinda ignored except for the occasional comment about her "shape."
The highlights of the film for me were:
The reality portrayed in the Lilo and Nani family.
Stitch.
Cobra Bubbles.
Lilo's picture taking.
I could go on and on..
It was a beautiful movie with WONDERFUL characters. What more could I ask for?

Lilo and Stitch was so different that at first I didn't know what to think about it. Stitch (at first) came across as a completely negative character. Lilo was so seriously messed up that it made me sad and uncomfortable. I guess the whole thing was a bit too REAL for me. However, the creators of the movie took a bad situation and made it into a wonderful triumph. Lilo and Stitch, who were so flawed and needy on their own, gave each other what they needed to be happy. This movie is a message for our times. You can be a COMPLETELY different person, with all kinds of problems, but you can make a positive difference in someone's life.
I'll be seeing it again so I can fully appreciate it.

One of the most highly anticipated Disney animated films in years and possibly the one that can save traditional animation at Disney, Lilo & Stitch enters theaters after a lot of buzz. But will that buzz help bring in the kids and beat out Tom Cruise's Minority Report?
The story tells of the escape of Experiment 626 from the Galactic Federation and how he lands on the Hawaiian islands. Mistaken for a dog, a misunderstood girl named Lilo adopts him and dubs him Stitch. But the Galactic Federation is out to get Experiment 626 before he destroys everything in site, which is what he is programmed to do. The story is very well done though it starts off slow at the beginning. Lilo & Stitch is different from most Disney animated films and that is what makes it unique. The story holds up much better then Disney's last animated attempt Atlantis: The Lost Empire.
Stitch may look ugly but he isn't. He's "just cute and fluffy!" At least that is what he says. Stitch is certainly more different then any Disney character before him and that is why he is so loveable. Fare warning that Stitch antics at the beginning of the film may frighten some smaller children. Lilo is one of the most down to Earth animated characters ever. She is a typical six year old who is cute and weird but also has a sort of dark side. For example, Lilo feeds a fish named Puge peanut butter every Thursday believing he controls the weather then when a girl calls her crazy, she jumps on her and starts punching her. The aliens are the main character problem since they are a variety of them but not a lot are unique to the audience members but with films like Men In Black and Evolution, it is becoming harder to come up with unique aliens.
Overall, Lilo & Stitch is a pure Disney gem and should be up there with the classics. Certainly not a Lion King but above that of Aladdin. It has tons of humor that mixes well with heart-warming storytelling and delightful characters. This has to be one of the most different Disney animated films but Disney needs change to keep up with its ever changing audience. There were some problems with the story starting off slow and some moments probably being too intense for some smaller children. But parents should be aware that the film is rated PG and shold be trusted to take precautions. This is not a typical Mickey Mouse film but that is the intention and it pulls it off with great flare. This is definitely one of the best comedy's of the year and should definitely be considered for next year's Oscar for Best Animated Film of the Year.
My Rating: ****1/2 out of 5
