Disney: The Music Behind the Magic Event in Seattle November 4th

"DISNEY: THE MUSIC BEHIND THE MAGIC� begins the weekend of November 4 at the Experience Music Project in Seattle, WA. Once once-in-a-lifetime seminars, personal appearances, and the premiere of the gigantic exhibit all salute Disney music from STEAMBOAT WILLIE to HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL.

Rare artifacts from the Walt Disney Archives have been loaned to the various displays, which can only be seen at the Experience Music Project in Seattle for the next year (a nationwide tour is planned for the following year).

Ribbon-cutting
EMP officials, Disney executives, and Mickey Mouse are part of a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the exhibit to the general public.

Saturday, November 4, 11:30 AM to 1 PM
Panel Discussion: Walt Disney Records: Then & Now
Greg Ehrbar, author of MouseTracks: The Story of Walt Disney Records, moderates a panel discussing the label's start as Disneyland Records and its evolution over the last 50 years. Panelists include Walt Disney Records producer and historian Randy Thornton; Disney historian and artist Stacia Martin; WDR performer & Disney Legend Ginny Tyler; and recording artist Marni Nixon. Followed by Q&A and book signing, featuring Ehrbar and Nixon, among others.

Book Signing
Description: Four-author book signing: Greg Ehrbar, author of MouseTracks: The Story of Walt Disney Records; Marni Nixon, author the memoir, I Could Have Sung All Night; Jeff Kurtti, author of several Disney-related books, including Disney Dossiers: Files of Character from the Disney Casting Department; and Robert Tieman of the Disney Archives, author of The Disney Keepsakes, The Disney Experience, and The Disney Treasures.

The Legacy of Disney Music
Exhibit curator Jasen Emmons moderates a panel of four Disney music experts discussing the role of music in Disney's success and the qualities that have made it so popular and timeless. Panelists include Disney historians Les Perkins and Paula Sigman Lowery; Jeff Kurtti, Creative Director of the Walt Disney Museum; and Robert Tieman, Disney Archivist.

Sunday, November 5, 12 pm to 1:00 pm
Disney Music in the Theme Parks
Walt Disney Records producer and historian Randy Thornton gives a presentation about the role of music in the Disney theme parks and talks about the 2005 box set A Musical History of Disneyland.

Sunday, November 5, 2 PM to 3 PM
Behind the Scenes of Disney Music
Exhibit curator Jasen Emmons shares excerpts of filmed interviews with Disney artists and experts, including Richard Sherman, Phil Collins, Alan Menken, Leonard Maltin, Thomas Schumacher, and others talking about different aspects of Disney music. Followed by a question-and-answer session.

PLUS!
Sunday presentations may also include a rare look at Disney record artwork, never-before-heard songs that DID NOT end up in classic films, and a salute to Disney voice actors.
