Located across the street from Port Orleans Riverside is the Best Friends Pet Care pet day camp and boarding facility. The locate replaces all five existing Walt Disney World kennels currently located at the theme parks and Ft. Wilderness Resort. The 50,000 square foot complex includes 17,000 square feet of air-conditioned indoor space, plus 10,000 square feet of covered outdoor patios and play areas and a 25,000 square-foot private dog park. The building offers accommodations for up to 300 dogs, cats and pocket pets, full-service grooming salon and two 1,100 square foot doggy day camp rooms.

The pet resort offers high-quality boarding and daycare, grooming services, and doggy day camp. There are a wide range of activities and special amenities available to keep pets busy and happy during their stay including group or individual play sessions, nature walks, cuddle sessions and bedtime stories. There are also special bedding options for both dogs and cats and treats such as ice cream for dogs and cookies and milk for cats.

At today's grand opening I had the opportunity to ask some specific questions about the location not addressed on the website. Among the answers I received...

• There very soon where be a "Play and Stay" option for guests who want the Day Camp during the day as well as boarding at night.
• Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club members receive a special rate that's a little bit lower than the Resort guest rate. Cast Members receive 20% off the regular rates.
• The location's hours will be 1 hour prior to the earliest park opening to 1 hour after the latest park closing (including Extra Magic Hours). Guests are welcome to visit their pets, walk them, play in the dog park, etc. during those hours. In addition, check-in and check-out are available 24 hours a day (a necessity given late flights, etc.).
• There is currently no transportation provided to and from the location. This is an issue for those staying at Ft. Wilderness. In the past, guests at Ft. Wilderness can walk or take a bus to the kennel located at the Outpost and visit their pet without having to move their RV. But now that's not an option and they did indicate they're aware of this issue and hoping to find a solution at some point.
• Webcams are available for the indoor play areas and each of the four VIP Suites.
