Disney fans will recognize many of the items that compromise Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives, the new exhibit running from July 6, 2012 through April 2013 at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum. While only about half have previously been on public display, many of the remaining items will be familiar to viewers of Disney films, TV programs, and theme park attractions.

More than 500 artifacts from the Walt Disney Company Archives are displayed in the 12,000-square-foot exhibit. Utilizing an existing gallery as well as a temporary space created especially for this show, it is the largest temporary exhibit ever offered at the Reagan Library.

Arranged in a roughly chronological order, galleries within the exhibit include Walt’s Early Years, A Bold Entry Into Live Action, A Renaissance in Animation, and Magical Kingdoms. Highlights include a complete recreation of Walt Disney’s formal office (the same that was displayed for many years at Disneyland’s Opera House), a complete set of the busts created for the Hall of Presidents attraction at the Magic Kingdom, original Audio-Animatronics figures from theme park attractions, items that personally belonged to Walt Disney, Presidential letters to Walt Disney, and props and costumes from such recent blockbusters as National Treasure, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, both TRON feature films, and Marvel’s The Avengers.

Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives will be open to the public during regular operating hours at the Reagan Library, every day of the year except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. The Library is located at 40 Presidential Drive in Simi Valley, about 60 minutes north of Los Angeles.
