The San Diego Comic-Con has become the place for entertainment companies to introduce new properties, create a stir on the media, and meet their most ardent fans. The Walt Disney Company brought several properties to Comic-Con 2012, none more eagerly anticipated than Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie. To promote the stop-motion animated film, Burton himself made a rare Comic-Con appearance, filling Hall H at the San Diego Convention Center with over 6,000 ardent fans. During a lively question and answer session, one fan even broke down, overwhelmed at the opportunity to speak with the quirky director.

The Walt Disney Company also offered a major display of sets, props, and figures used in the production of the film. The Art of Frankenweenie Exhibition was a popular stop on the exhibit floor. For those who missed it, the Exhibition, which already was shown in Barcelona, will also make tour stops at Mexico City’s Plaza Universidad (July 27-August 7), Toronto’s Fan Expo (August 23-26), Disney California Adventure Park (September 14-November 5), Madrid (September-October), London (October), Paris (October-November) and Tokyo (December). You can follow the tour (and take a virtual visit of the Exhibition) at facebook.com/Frankenweenie.

HGTV partnered with Disney to provide a large exhibit across the street from the Convention Center. The HGTV Electrifying Garden offered guests a tour of the New Holland Pet Cemetery, free treats, and an opportunity to send a photo greeting card with characters from the film.

Frankenweenie is scheduled to open only in theaters on October 5, 2012 in the United States.
