Today, Disney Cruise Line announced a major makoever for the Disney Magic, Disney's original cruise ship (launched in 1998). This transformation takes place during dry dock September 7 - October 10, 2013 in Cadiz, Spain with the first post-makeover sailing taking place on October 20th from Miami. Below is a list of the enchancements followed by videos, concept art and logos for all the new features.

Upper Decks

  • Aquadunk new thrill slide (Deck 13)
Water thrills (and spills!) are found on the AquaDunk, a 37-foot-tall body slide that begins with a surprise launch. Riders step inside a translucent tube and await the near-vertical launch that takes place when the floor beneath them – surprise! – opens like a trap door. The drop sends guests on an exhilarating, swift and splashy ride, starting high atop the forward funnel on deck 13 and ending on deck 10. Another thrilling feature of the slide that some might say that will send guests "over the edge" is the AquaDunk design – the translucent tube extends 20 feet over the side of the ship — allowing sharp-eyed riders a straight-line look at the ocean more than 112 feet under them. Guests who choose to spectate rather than participate will be able to see the free-falling fun from many vantage points on the top decks. Guests taller than 48 inches can enjoy the AquaDunk.
  • AquaLab new interactive water playground and pool (Deck 9)
Guests can soak in the sun and the water fun in the interactive water playground. The area is open to children ages 3 and up. Here, families can frolic among pop jets, geysers and bubblers in this fun and fanciful 1,800-square-foot space. Pop jets scattered around the deck spray randomly while "water boilers" provide a cooling splash with spray churning from their extra-leaky rivets.  One especially ducky water feature is an onboard homage to the "original angry bird" himself, Donald Duck. The Donald Boiler is a duck-shaped figure whose hotheaded temper triggers periodic bursts of high-pressure mist, accompanied by a temper-tantrum water gusher. Interactive buttons on The Donald Boiler help guests get into the frenetic fun.
  • Twist n' Spout Water Slide (Deck 9)
Takes riders through a series of spirals and turns, with three large loops turning them in opposite directions. Twist n’ Spout can be enjoyed by guests taller than 38 inches and smaller than 64 inches.
  • Nephews' Splash Zone for infants and toddlers (Deck 9)
A splash-a-second space dedicated to interactive fun and starring Donald Duck’s mischievous nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie. The area features all sorts of water play with pop jets, squirting figures of Donald Duck’s nephews and plenty of high seas hijinks they’ve created for "Unca Donald."

Kids and Teens

  • Disney's Oceaneer Club, ages 3 to 12 (Deck 5)
    • Marvel's Avengers Academy
Young crime-fighters are transported to a secret S.H.I.E.L.D. base (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) – a technologically advanced remote command post used by The Avengers for special missions and operations training.  Throughout the base, displays featuring some of the equipment that helps to make The Avengers earth’s mightiest heroes – Iron Man’s high-tech suit of armor, Captain America’s shield and Thor’s hammer — inspire super hero "recruits" through their academy missions. Avengers Academy is a multi-day, immersive entertainment experience for children, where they interact with Marvel characters and unleash their inner super heroes.  High-tech fun is the name of the game inside Marvel’s Avengers Academy with computer stations and a giant video wall to assist in their multi-day "training" and super hero missions. Special lighting and audio effects enhance the experience.
    • Andy's Room
Adjacent to Marvel’s Avengers Academy, this  is where the toys are back in town! The popular and toyful stars of the "Toy Story" film trilogy come to life in this multi-level activity area where kids become toy-sized. Stocked with all of Andy’s favorite toys, the room features a giant, working Mr. Potato Head, where kids can find huge pieces and parts to craft their own Mr. Potato Head creation. Also hamming it up in Andy’s Room is a larger-than-life version of the lovable "Toy Story" piggy bank, Hamm. Andy’s bed is the focal point of the room, with a Slinky Dog slide, the easiest (and most fun!) way to quickly descend to the toy room floor where kids can play underneath.
    • Pixie Hollow
Next door to Andy’s Room, this is the enchanted land where Tinker Bell and her fairy friends live. In this magical forest setting, children are magically shrunk to pixie size. With tree branches winding their way around the space, Tinker Bell’s teapot house serves as a closet filled with fanciful costumes for dress up. A compact mirror allows young fairies to see their new attire. Just like a true tinker fairy, children can make crafts while sitting on stools shaped like mushrooms and acorns, or play on computers shrouded in tree branches.
    • Mickey Mouse Club
Inside a room splashed with Mickey’s signature colors of red, yellow and black, kids can create crafts and play games on custom, ear-shaped tables. The Mickey Mouse Club is inspired by a new series of two-dimensional short cartoons that places the world’s most famous mouse in contemporary settings like Paris, New York, Tokyo and Venice. The new cartoons, which borrow from the style of Mickey Mouse’s character in the 1930s, will air on The Disney Channel and Disney.com. The club also features Goofy Gears, an oversized activity where kids play with wacky, magnetic spinning gears. Another game, Mickey’s Memory Match Game, is a pixie-dusted version of the classic kids memory challenge.
  • Disney's Oceaneer Lab, re-themed (Deck 5)
Adorned with giant, nautical ropes belayed around columns, ancient navigation maps on the walls and compasses emblazoned throughout the décor, the seafaring fun spot lets children create, play and explore with games, video walls and digital stations. An animator’s studio lets budding artists bloom as they watch their animation creations come to life before their eyes, a pirate workshop and lab lets kids get hands-on to create experiments and art projects, and Navigator Simulators let young buccaneers take the wheel and captain a ship through the mysterious waters of The Caribbean. There’s also a craft studio and a giant checkerboard floor to encourage creativity and active play. And since all pirates need a "secret passage" to escape in case of trouble, there is a passageway that connects the Oceaneer Lab to the Oceaneer Club – allowing
  • It's a Small World Nursery, replacing Flounder's Reef, 3 months to 3 years (Deck 5)
For the cruisers ages three months to three years. Inspired by the style of Disney Legend Mary Blair, this whimsical world is a place of age-specific fun and discovery. In the nursery’s main play area, cheerful artwork and murals resembling the namesake Disney Parks attraction welcome children. Hands-on features, including horns to honk, wheels to spin and buttons to press, are sure to delight curious kids. Colorful, kid-sized tables and chairs for toddlers to enjoy crafts, books and games with caring, trained counselors also are featured. At the back of the nursery, a serene motif and a calm, quiet atmosphere is reserved for naptime. Parents wishing to check on their children without disturbing them can glimpse into the nursery’s main play area through a one-way window.

  • Palo restaurant dining room makeover (Deck 10)
Receives a makeover with stylish wood fixtures, glass artwork panels, new stone floors, decorative lighting and hand-tufted carpet. Red and white striped poles reminiscent of those found throughout the canals in Venice are a design feature. A rich interior color palette – inspired by Venetian artwork – complements gourmet dishes that please guests’ palates. While the look of Palo is enhanced, the world-renowned Northern Italian cuisine and elegant dining experience has not changed.

Family Dining

  • Cariaco's replacing Parrot Cay (Deck 3)
The vibrancy of Rio de Janeiro creates an energetic atmosphere in this new restaurant named after Donald Duck's parrow pal in "The Tree Caballeros," Jose Carioca. Designed to be fun by day, elegant by night.  During the day, buffet meals feature a festival theme before night falls and the atmosphere transforms into an after-hours scene of Rio de Janiero, with city-side windows softly illuminated and lanterns flickering overhead. A scenery scrim is drawn to conceal the buffet and kitchen areas for dinner service, providing a more elegant dining locale.

The beach-themed dining room, colorful surfboards, beach umbrellas and teak Adirondack chairs create a sunny "down under" setting for guests. The restaurant is also expanding with a larger indoor area and increased total square-footage of air-conditioned space by nearly 3,400 square feet to more than 9,460 square feet. After dry dock, seating increases from 249 to 343 indoor seats and decreases from 132 to 112 outdoor seats.

The spacious and spectacular three-deck lobby features hand-tufted, custom-made carpet that dazzles in a palette of vibrant coral, blue and aquamarine seashell-inspired designs. The art deco atrium chandelier is inspired by rays of the sun and the glisten of the surface of the ocean. Opulent furnishings, a grand piano and giant portholes recall the days of early 20th century ocean liners. The lobby’s centerpiece is a cold-cast bronze statue of "Helmsman Mickey," ever-smiling and keeping watch as guests stroll past. The famed statue, which has stood in the atrium since the ship was launched, will receive a special makeover bringing new luster to its golden hue.
