In a first-of-its-kind program, Disney Parks in 2010 will give a free one-day admission to a Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort theme park to one million people in the U.S. and Canada who perform volunteer service with a participating organization. As part of "Give a Day, Get a Disney Day," Disney Parks is working with HandsOn Network, the nation's largest volunteer network, to connect families and individual volunteers to projects. The program kicks off Jan. 1, 2010.

To announce the program, Disney CEO and President Bob Iger was joined by Disneyland Ambassador Andrae Rivas, President of the HandsOn Network Amy Smith, Terri Hatcher and James Denton of ABC TV’s Desperate Housewives, and special guests Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy of the Muppets. The announcement was made at a special early morning event staged at a house building project in Lynwood, California, co-sponsored by HandsOn Network, LAWorks, Habitat for Humanity, and the Disney VoluntEars. Volunteers on hand that day were among the first to enjoy a free one-day admission to a Disney theme park.
