Three Disneyland Executives Given Promotions
The Disneyland Resort has promoted three executives to senior vice presidents, it was announced Tuesday by Cynthia Harriss, Disneyland Resort president.
Hideo Amemiya, 55, formerly vice president of Hotel Operations, was promoted to senior vice president, Disneyland Resort Hotels. Dewitt "T" Irby, 59, formerly vice president of Facilities, Engineering and Construction was promoted to senior vice president, Facilities, Engineering and Construction, The Disneyland Resort. William E. "Bill" Ross, 49, formerly vice president Public Affairs, was promoted to senior vice president Public Affairs, The Disneyland Resort. All three executives will continue to report directly to Harriss.
"The promotion of these extraordinary executives is in recognition of their outstanding leadership, commitment and contribution to the Disneyland Resort," Harriss said. "It also recognizes the growing scope and impact of their responsibilities as the Disneyland Resort continues to expand."
Amemiya joined The Walt Disney Company in 1971 and has held a variety of hotel management positions in locations from Walt Disney World in Orlando to Tokyo Disneyland. He currently is responsible for providing strategic direction for the 1,136-room Disneyland Hotel, the 502-room Disneyland Pacific Hotel and the 750-room Disney's Grand Californian Hotel, opening in 2001.
A native of Tokyo, Amemiya holds a bachelor's degree in social science from Rikkyo University, Tokyo, along with a bachelor's degree in hotel and restaurant management from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He serves on the board of the Anaheim Area Hotel/Motel Association, the executive advisory council board for Cal State Polytechnic University's School of Hotel and Restaurant Management, and on the resort committee of the American Hotel and Motel Association.
Irby joined the Walt Disney Company in 1997 following a distinguished 33-year career with the United States Army from which he retired at the rank of Major General. He is frequently described as the "landlord" of the Disneyland Resort. In this capacity, his responsibilities include oversight of the processes, programs and plans to sustain the life cycle of both current and future Resort physical assets. Irby's vast military career includes experience in engineering, acquisition management, manufacturing, logistics management, and business planning involving the Army's fleet of more than 10,000 aircraft and 5,000 personnel. He is a Master Army Aviator who served two tours in Vietnam. He has been awarded the Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with three oak leaf clusters, the Bronze Star with four oak leaf clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Born in Mississippi, Irby was a distinguished military graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and holds an MA degree in management from Central Michigan University.
Ross is the senior Disney executive responsible for administering, developing and implementing all public affairs efforts for the Disneyland Resort. He was instrumental in successfully aligning the Disneyland Resort, the city of Anaheim and Orange County leaders in support of the Resort expansion project. Ross joined Disneyland in 1974 and has been selected for both domestic and international management roles for the Walt Disney Company. He has held key assignments at Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. A native southern Californian, Ross holds both Bachelor and Master of science degrees from Cal State University, Fullerton, where he also lectured for five years. He holds a California Community College teaching credential in business and industrial management. Ross is an active community member and serves on a variety of non-profit boards such as Providence Speech and Hearing Center, California Golden State Museum, Cypress College Foundation, Pediatric Adolescent Diabetes Research Education Foundation and the Orange County Tourism Council.
