CinemaSourceOnline: Remember the Titans Gets Highest Score of 2000

Audiences Give "Remember the Titans" the Highest Score of the Millennium! CinemaScore Online Announces the First A+ Rated Film Since "Toy Story 2" and Only A+ Film of 2000

CinemaScore Online, www.CinemaScore.com, the online source for Instant Movie Reviews(TM), today announced that Walt Disney Pictures' "Remember the Titans" has broken all records to become the first and only A+ rated film of the year and the highest rated film ever in the 20 years since CinemaScore began its research.

The last movies to receive an overall A+ rating were Disney's "Toy Story 2" and Miramax's "Music of the Heart" in 1999.

"Compared to audience response, critics have been surprisingly cool to 'Remember the Titans'," noted Ed Mintz, president of CinemaScore Entertainment Research Company. "But that is the power of CinemaScore -- we report what real audiences think and they love this movie!"

CinemaScore Online revealed audience ratings of straight A+s by all ages, both male and female, for "Remember the Titans" Saturday morning via its weekly e-newsletter. Movie grades are based on in-theaters surveys of Friday night (opening night) moviegoers in theaters across the country. Audiences grade the film from A+ to F, and CinemaScore.com reports the grades broken down into six groups: male and female; ages under 21; 21 to 34; and 35 and older.

"The last two Disney movies scoring A+ both went on to gross over $250 million worldwide," said Brad Peppard, president of CinemaScore Online. "This movie could be a big surprise winner, both in the total box office it generates for Disney, and when the time comes for the awards to be handed out."

Not only is "Remember the Titans" the only movie to have scored an A+ this year, it is also Denzel Washington's biggest debut of his career. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Disney was ecstatic with the performance of "Remember the Titans" as the film's box office exceeded projections for tracking. "Our feet haven't touched the ground all weekend!" Chuck Viane, President of Buena Vista Pictures Distribution told the Hollywood Reporter.

For over 20 years, the CinemaScore Entertainment Research movie survey results have been an exclusive resource to the entertainment industry. In 1999, CinemaScore Online was launched to share this valuable information with the general public, enabling people to make better movie choices. On the www.CinemaScore.com Web site, visitors can search CinemaScore's library of movie reviews from the last 20 years. The library can be searched by keyword, actor, director, and film title. There is also a section for upcoming movie releases and new movies out on video.
