Walt Disney Internet Group and eBay Premiere Disney Auctions

Disney Auctions Site Highlights Authentic and Unique Disney Collectibles and Memorabilia Including Original Disneyland Sign and props from ``102 Dalmatians'' Offered Directly from The Walt Disney Company

Bidding has begun at Disney Auctions, a new online marketplace from Walt Disney Internet Group and eBay. Disney Auctions features authentic, rare and one-of-a-kind Disney collectibles and memorabilia from every aspect of Disney's fabled entertainment legacy. This marks the first time authentic Disney memorabilia has been offered directly from The Walt Disney Company for an online trading venue.

Virtually every part of The Walt Disney Company will be represented with unique product offerings on Disney Auctions. The new site taps nearly 80 years of history from The Walt Disney Company, including classic animated and live-action films, television series, theme park attractions, books, vintage merchandise, contemporary collectibles and more.

Disney Auctions presented by eBay premieres with an impressive array of offerings for anyone who wants to own a part of the Disney magic. Items featured will include:

  • The original Disneyland marquee letters
  • The original lithograph from the opening day of Walt Disney World
  • Tickets to the premiere of 102 Dalmatians
  • Hocus Pocus costumes worn by Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker
  • ``Buzz Lightyear'' production cels
  • A mint-condition ``The Disneyland News'' newspaper from the park's opening day in 1955
  • Beauty and the Beast walking Teapot costume and Alice in Wonderland walking card costume from the Disneyland parade
  • Items from the original Mickey Mouse Club, including hats, shoes, jackets and records
  • In the coming months, through exclusive online product offerings, bidders will be able to celebrate such Disney milestones as the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney's Cinderella, the world premiere of Disney's upcoming live-action film 102 Dalmatians or opening of Disney's California Adventure Theme Park in 2001.

``We believe Disney Auctions offers a unique online consumer experience where Disney enthusiasts will find some of the most coveted Disney items,'' said Steve Wadsworth, president, Walt Disney Internet Group. ``Through the combination of authenticated Disney merchandise and eBay's vibrant community and powerful auction-style venue, we have created a world class online trading environment as well as a viable new revenue stream.''

Partnering with eBay, the world's leading online trading community, Disney Auctions provides consumers with a safe, fun and interactive bidding environment. All merchandise comes directly from Disney, and has guaranteed authenticity. For special pieces, bidders have the opportunity to review items through photos and featured articles.

``We continually create new and innovative opportunities for eBay members to find what they're looking for. Disney Auctions is a destination where people from around the world can get a little part of the Disney magic,'' said Brian Swette, COO, eBay. ``In addition to the items eBay members can find directly from Disney, they will also have access to the same eBay experience they have come to know and love by bidding in the person-to-person venue, also accessible from Disney Auctions.''

``The premiere of Disney Auctions provides consumers with an incredible opportunity to experience and own part of the Disney magic in a way that has never before been available,'' added Alan Johnson, senior vice president, e-commerce, Walt Disney Internet Group. ``The fact that this opportunity is presented by eBay makes for an all-around reliable experience for Disney's valued enthusiasts.''
