Walt Disney World Resort Marks Magical New Year’s 2001Walt Disney World Resort rings in 2001 with a dazzling display of entertainment, parades, fireworks and extended hours throughout the Vacation Kingdom.
On the big night, revelers can sample Disney’s millennium magic with a host of festivities at Epcot: “Tapestry of Nations” -- a brilliant parade featuring dozens of giant colorful puppets weaving around World Showcase lagoon, at 3:30 and 5:15 p.m.; “IllumiNations 2000: Reflections of Earth” -- a nighttime spectacle with lasers, fireworks and fiery torches orchestrated to an original soundtrack, at 11:40 p.m.; and Millennium Village -- a multicultural showcase representing more than 50 countries.

Epcot New Year’s Eve special entertainment includes Tito Puente Junior at the Fountain Stage; and performances by Native American superstar Jana ; and Grand Derangement , a fusion of traditional Arcadian music, rock, jazz, and Louisiana and Irish rhythms, staged at America Gardens Theatre.
Kids ages six weeks to 16 can join in the fun with their very own party -- a Children’s Masquerade Ball including dinner, arts & crafts, games, noisemakers and more at Disney’s Contemporary Resort Convention Center. Advance tickets are $130 for the first child and $120 for each additional child; at the door, $175 and $165 for each additional child. At Disney-MGM Studios on New Year’s Eve, Florida’s own Sister Hazel and Vertical Horizon perform two shows each, plus three “Fantasmic!” shows at 6:30, 8:30 and 10:30 p.m., and a midnight fireworks display.
On the big night, the Magic Kingdom is atwinkle with “Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Parade” at 2 p m., “Main Street Electrical Parade” at 7 and 10 p.m. and “Fantasy in the Sky” fireworks at 8:30 p.m. and midnight.
At midnight the party’s just cranking up at Downtown Disney Pleasure Island, where New Year’s Eve is celebrated every night at this popular hot spot. On Dec. 31, Duran Duran , Foreigner and Chic headline the entertainment lineup for this rousing street party. The crazy countdown features a food buffet, champagne toast, eight clubs with a myriad of entertainment, plus fireworks, all for $150 per person. Must be over 21 for admission. Swing in the New Year at the 1940s-themed Atlantic Dance at Disney’s BoardWalk. The romantic evening includes the Dave Stephens Swing Orchestra , plus a live DJ, gourmet dinner and open bar in an elegant candlelight setting, $300 per person. Must be over 21 for admission. For tickets call WDW-DINE
