Sing-Along 'Mary Poppins' Goes on 'Jolly Holiday' as Interactive Movie Experience Glides Into Tempe, Arizona March 2nd
Following its tremendously successful engagement last summer at Hollywood's legendary El Capitan Theatre, moviegoers in Tempe, Arizona, will soon get their chance to sing along with Walt Disney's Academy Award®-winning classic "Mary Poppins'' starting on March 2nd at the Harkins Valley Art Theater, 505 S. Mill Ave. (on Mill Ave. at 5th St.), Tempe, it was announced today (2/27) by Lylle Breier, senior vice president of worldwide special events for Buena Vista Pictures Distribution. The special engagement, which will run for two weeks ending March 15th, features a restored 35mm Dolby Stereo print of the classic 1964 film that has been customized with on-screen lyrics of all the songs so that audiences can join in the fun by singing along. As an added bonus, moviegoers are encouraged to dress as their favorite character from the film -- the practically perfect Mary Poppins, Bert the charismatic chimney sweep, laugh-loving Uncle Albert, stuffy Mr. Banks, the long-suffering Suffragette Mrs. Banks, the kindly bird woman, a penguin waiter, or the precise Admiral Boom.
Showtimes for the Sing-Along "Mary Poppins'' in Tempe are as follows:
- Monday-Thursday @ 1:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m.
- Friday @ 1:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m., and 10:00 p.m.
- Saturday @ 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m., and 10:00 p.m.
- Sunday @ 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m.
In addition to the special engagement in Tempe, the Sing-Along "Mary Poppins'' will play in Dallas, Texas on March 9th - 18th before returning to the El Capitan in Hollywood, California on April 13th.
Nominated for 13 Oscars® and winner of five (including one for the Sherman Brothers' song, "Chim Chim Cher-ee''), "Mary Poppins'' is considered the crowning achievement in Walt Disney's illustrious filmmaking career.
