In its first week of availability, PEARL HARBOR, Touchstone Pictures' sweeping wartime tale, has sold 7 million units, it was announced today by Robert Chapek, President of Buena Vista Home Entertainment, a unit of The Walt Disney Company. The wartime epic was made available on VHS and DVD in two editions (a 60th Anniversary collector's edition and a gift set) on December 4th. PEARL HARBOR'S week one DVD performance is the best debut week in DVD sales of all time, and a landmark event for the home entertainment industry.

"We're thrilled to see the overwhelming response to PEARL HARBOR on DVD," said Michael D. Eisner, Disney Chairman and CEO. "We've created the very best DVD experience for our customers in terms of sight, sound and bonus features. We are proud of PEARL HARBOR and the way that audiences have brought the film into their homes."

"To commemorate the 60th anniversary of PEARL HARBOR we have developed a wide range of entertaining and informative historical programs on the DVD. These features are a tribute to American men and women who serve their country, whether 60 years ago or today."

PEARL HARBOR is available in several editions:

The 60TH ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATIVE EDITION OF PEARL HARBOR, on a two tape VHS set, includes the bonus History Channel(R) documentary "Unsung Heroes," which tells the story of the American servicemen caught in the surprise attack, as well as the Faith Hill music video "There You'll Be," the theme song from the film. On DVD the two-disc set includes all VHS bonus features, as well as "Journey To The Screen: The Making of Pearl Harbor," a program that interviews real Pearl Harbor survivors and takes a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film. Included are cast and crew interviews and compelling facts about the U.S.S. Arizona. This DVD edition also features the Dolby(R) Headphone Soundtrack, a worldwide DVD first, which provides headphone listeners with a theater surround sound experience. There is also a custom-designed DVD-ROM feature, the "Definitive Bibliography" with hyperlinks to the best Pearl Harbor websites, for those wanting even more information about the attack and its role in history. PEARL HARBOR on DVD is presented in DTS(R) and Dolby(R) Digital 5.1 Surround Sound with THX(R) Certification, in a widescreen (2.35:1 aspect ratio) presentation that captures the sweep and drama of this important epic. DVD two-disc set: $29.99 (S.R.P.) & VHS set $24.99 (S.R.P.).

The 60TH ANNIVERSARY GIFT SET contains all the features of the 60th Anniversary Commemorative Edition, plus the definitive companion program, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC BEYOND THE MOVIE: PEARL HARBOR(TM), for those who love movies and the real stories that inspire them. National Geographic takes viewers beyond the movie to explore the compelling real-life issues that inspired the movie, and poses probing questions such as who planned the attack on Pearl Harbor and how did the U.S. respond to the attack on Pearl Harbor. VHS gift set: $39.99 (S.R.P.), DVD gift set $49.99 (S.R.P.).

The four-disc VISTA series DVD of PEARL HARBOR will be available on May 14, 2002, presenting a director's cut of the film with new visual effects. The DVD has 12 hours of bonus programming that includes multiple audio commentaries, "making of" featurettes, a multi-angle version of the surprise attack, storyboards, Veteran commentaries, historic timelines, documentaries and much more.
