Disneyland® Resort Introduces 10 New Theme Park Venues For Group Events For 2002
Meeting planners can count on a "wow" with one of 10 new venue packages for group events at the Disneyland Resort in Southern California. In the classic magic of Disneyland park or in the bright lights of Disney's California Adventure, these private theme parties in the parks are designed to leave lasting impressions.
The following packages are custom-designed to each group's needs, attendees, budget and overall meeting message.
HOLLYWOOD PICTURES BACKLOT
In, Disney's California Adventure, Hollywood Pictures Backlot becomes a "closed
set" with barricades and theatrical props, where guests receive special Backlot
credentials casting them as "extras" in a movie shoot. As sky trackers light up
the sky, a roaming talent scout spans the crowd seeking the silver screen's next
superstar. Meanwhile, a wardrobe supervisor scurries about with a rolling costume rack, as
a make-up artist powders noses, and a bullhorn-toting director shouts "Quiet on the
set!" and "Action!" to let guests know rehearsal has begun. Disney's
"Psychic to the Stars" is also on hand to offer worldly advice to aspiring
starlets yearning to know if fame and fortune await them in Hollywood.
Simultaneously, Hollywood Pictures Backlot transforms into "Club Hollywood," an all-too-hip disco. The high-energy Band On Wheels rolls in with the hits and their spicy Tinseltown dancers bring the music to life, performing on scaffolding above.
ADVENTURELAND
In the far-off civilization of Disneyland park's Adventureland, guests cruise through the
African jungles, avoid poisonous snakes, search for ancient artifacts and savor tropical
fare. The Indiana Jones Adventure takes travelers deep into the Temple of the
Forbidden Eye, then wisecracking skippers steer them through a river of amazing life-like
animals on the light-hearted Jungle Cruise. Throughout Adventureland, an Arabian trio
strolls the village, Safari Mickey and Minnie greet voyagers and pose for photos, and
young ones listen up-close to Aladdin and Jasmine telling captivating tales in Aladdin's
Oasis. The journey culminates as a "Night at the Casbah" with percussion-driven
dance music and exotic belly dancers.
HAUNTED MANSION
Eerie and elegant is a very exclusive dinner for 40 guests in Disneyland's ghostly manor,
the classic Haunted Mansion, where guests arrive to a blanket of fog and tombstones tailor
made to greet the group. Dining inside the Mansion's candlelit Grand Hall is a
once-in-a-lifetime experience, where live ghouls, the haunting sounds of resident harpist
and singing specters (a "barbaric quartet") perform hilarious hits from the
graveyard.
EVENING OF ANIMATION
This evening of illustration and imagination celebrates the art of Disney. Located in the
glamorous setting of Hollywood Pictures Backlot in Disney's California Adventure park,
guests enter the towering marquee attraction of Disney's Animation to see luminous
sketches of classic Disney characters past and present. Large-scale projections of
favorite Disney animated films cascade around the rotunda where guests can watch Disney
animators at work and listen to a jazz ensemble. Disney characters then line Hollywood
Boulevard outside to give guests a fond farewell.
TOMORROWLAND
Buzz Lightyear invites all space rangers to experience the futuristic fun of Tomorrowland,
an after-hours party planet in Disneyland park. Soaring to "infinity and
beyond," Buzz Lightyear signs autographs and poses for photos, while campy space acts
such as Cosmos the Candy Sculptor or Janet the Planet Juggler entertain onlookers. The
Water Sprites, a playful interactive dance troupe, perform among the Cosmic Waves - the
sparkling, kinetic fountain in the midst of the action. While in Tomorrowland, guests can
voyage on a high-speed trek through space on the Space Mountain roller coaster, climb into
the rocket jet of Astro Orbitor, take a trip through asteroid fields of Star Tours, or
shrink in the 3-D adventure of "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience." On the Club Buzz
stage, the Stellar Deejay is flanked with 10 Galaxy a Go-Go Girls and Guys, drawing
attendees to the dance floor to blast the night away.
GOLDEN HORSESHOE
The spirit of the Old West comes alive in the Golden Horseshoe Saloon in Frontierland at
Disneyland park. Cowpokes are met by such rascally characters as Mayor McGillicudy, Pecos
Goofy, the Town Sheriff and comedic ranch hands. Inside, saloon girl dancers keep things
kicking with country line dancing lessons to a live band such as Billy Hill and the
Hillbillies, and serve the best Western grub this side of the Alamo. This dusty one-horse
town is the place to take a wild ride on a runaway mine train, Big Thunder Mountain
Railroad, barrels through bat caves, caverns and waterfalls.
RANCHO DEL ZOCALO
The silhouette of a dashing Spanish horseman in the wrought-iron archway welcomes guests
to Rancho del Zocalo in Frontierland. Zocalo (zo-ca-low, meaning "gathering
place") is in the center of town exuding the warmth of an Old World hacienda. This
lantern-lit courtyard is draped with bougainvillea, strolling guitarists and flavorful
cuisine that depict the romance and heritage of early California. Rancho del Zocalo is
also ideal for a reception leading to a Golden Horseshoe event or a ride on Big Thunder
Mountain railroad.
MARK TWAIN RIVERBOAT
A group in Frontierland can also set sail with a pre-party or post-reception cruise along
the Rivers of America on the historic Mark Twain Riverboat. Climbing aboard the stately
stern-wheeler, guests are entertained by a Dixieland band as majestic views of New Orleans
Square, Critter Country and Tom Sawyer Island pass by. The Mark Twain Riverboat is one of
the original Disneyland attractions, and when it first cruised in 1955, it was the first
paddle wheeler built in the United States in 50 years. It has a 105-foot hull, weighs 150
tons and is designed to carry 300 passengers.
ABC SOAP OPERA BISTRO
Full of melodrama, mystery and intrigue, the zany cast of characters puts partygoers right
in the plot line of a daytime drama at the ABC Soap Opera Bistro in Disney's California
Adventure. Themed to the glittery world of Hollywood Pictures Backlot, guests walk the red
carpet while a celebrity interviewer announces the group's arrival. "Fans" are
on the sidelines to fawn over the guests, begging for autographs and photos, while trying
to crash the party. Inside, an interactive dining experience awaits "on the set"
of ABC's favorite soaps. Improv actors/servers cook and carve culinary masterpieces on
seven "sets" such as the Nurses Station from "General Hospital," in
Chandler Mansion of "All My Children" or on the dock of "Port
Charles." To cap off the event, the Disney cast performs a humorous "The World
of ABC Soaps," written with lyrics especially for the group.
DESSERT AT PARADISE PIER
Reminiscent of the bygone days of California's beachfront amusement parks, Paradise Pier
in Disney's California Adventure offers a whimsical boardwalk for a private dessert
reception. Guests can sink their teeth into a big waffle cone or a pile of cotton candy
and remember the surfside carnivals of their youth. Paradise Pier is nostalgic and
distinctly Disney: the California Screamin' roller coaster jets from 0-55 in under five
seconds with a loop-de-loop around Mickey Mouse's famous ears, yet was modeled after the
traditional roller coasters of the '20s. Thrill seekers will also enjoy a spin on Paradise
Pier's giant Sun Wheel, the curvy Mulholland Madness roller coaster, the swings of the
Orange Stinger and the catapult of the Maliboomer.
Other Suggested Entertainment Enhancements:
- Disney characters mingling with guests and posing for photos
- Roaming atmosphere bands that complement the theme of the event such as the Bayou Brass, an Arabian Trio or Beach Band on Wheels
- Customized welcome signage with a personalized message for the group
- Custom lighting illuminating the grounds with a company's logo
