ABC INC. Names John Zucker, VP, Law And Regulation

JOHN W. ZUCKER PROMOTED TO VICE PRESIDENT, LAW AND REGULATION, ABC, INC.

John W. Zucker has been promoted to vice president, law and regulation, ABC, Inc. The announcement was made by Alan N. Braverman, deputy general counsel of The Walt Disney Company and executive vice president and general counsel, ABC, Inc., to whom Mr. Zucker reports. Mr. Zucker succeeds Sam Antar who retired after 36 years with ABC.

In his new position, Mr. Zucker oversees all the ABC legal department work with respect to television affiliate relations, FCC compliance issues for ABC-owned broadcast stations and networks, and pre-publication content review for ABC's news operations and on-line services.

"John Zucker's expert knowledge of the media and the law, and his outstanding track record here at ABC, made him the perfect choice to succeed Sam Antar who retired after a long and distinguished career," Mr. Braverman said. "John and Sam worked closely to ensure a smooth transition which also is indicative of the far reaching strength throughout the ranks of our legal department."

Mr. Zucker previously served as vice president, news legal affairs, since last year. He joined ABC in 1993 as senior general attorney, law-journalism. Earlier in his career, Mr. Zucker was a senior broadcast attorney at CBS, Inc., and he had been associated with the law firm of Wilmer, Cutler and Pickering in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Zucker is a graduate of Yale Law School and was editor-in-chief of the Yale Law Observer. He received his undergraduate degree summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Yale College where he was editor-in-chief of The Yale Daily News. After law school, he clerked for then-U.S. District Judge Jose A. Cabranes and for Judge J. Joseph Smith of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Since 1999, Mr. Zucker has served as an adjunct professor of journalism at Columbia University where he currently teaches the graduate seminar, "Journalism, Society, and the Law." He also has been a visiting lecturer at Yale College and taught an undergraduate seminar there on "The Media and the First Amendment." In addition, Mr. Zucker has been a speaker on media-related legal issues at numerous industry gatherings and has been published in professional journals.

Mr. Zucker will continue to be based in New York where he resides with his wife Karen and son Matthew.
