100 Mickeys Art Exhibition By Painter Eric Robison To Be Displayed At the Disney Gallery
'One Hundred Mickeys' Art Exhibition By Painter Eric Robison To Be Displayed At the Disney Gallery At Disneyland® Park in Honor of Walt Disney's 100th BirthdayHe might be portrayed waving a magic wand, skipping,
laughing, looking perplexed - he may be depicted in rich, dark colors, in pastels, in
black & white sketches - but it's all still Mickey Mouse. And renowned artist Eric
Robison has painted the famous Mouse one hundred times for a special exhibit called 'One
Hundred Mickeys' to be on display in cooperation with Federal Express Corporation at the
Disney Gallery inside Disneyland park February 23 through September 8, 2002.
Robison was commissioned by the Walt Disney Company to re-create the American icon in
honor of the anniversary of Walt Disney's 100th birthday. Robison says he was excited
about receiving the proposal and immediately "packed up my paints and brushes and
flew to a little island in the Caribbean to commence this ambitious undertaking
I
returned two weeks later with the first twenty-one Mice in my suitcase."
Robison confesses that the next 79 paintings were more of a challenge and it took 16
months to complete. In total, Robison has created 96 paintings - some with more than one
Mickey Mouse image on the canvas - for a total of, and hence the name of the exhibit, 'One
Hundred Mickeys.'
The paintings will be for sale and range in price from $500 to $10,000. A web site, www.100mickeys.com will be live
beginning February 8, 2002 and will have images of all One Hundred Mickeys, as well as
ordering information for prints of Robison's creations. The Disneyland Resort has chosen
Fed Ex Corp to ship the prints at no cost to guests.
In collaboration with the 'One Hundred Mickeys' exhibit,
pins depicting Robison's paintings will be on sale at the Disney Gallery. In addition, the
Disney Gallery will feature an interactive exhibit, which allows guests to print out their
favorite Robison Mickey painting on either paper or canvas.
An artist, concept designer and sometimes writer/film maker, Robison has had a
multi-faceted career ranging from designing attractions for Disney theme parks at Walt
Disney Imagineering to creating new concepts for Hot Wheels for Mattel Toys. In addition,
his designs have appeared in various films such as "Total Recall."
Robison received his degree in economics from the University of California, Irvine, but
realized after three years in business that art was really his calling. In 1984, he
enrolled at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California where he graduated,
with honors, in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design.
Utilizing a style that has been described as both intellectual and theatrical, Robison
applies sticks, fingers and brushes to paint. His works have been shown at the Chicago
Museum of Science & Industry; The Art Center Gallery and Knightsbridge Theater in
Pasadena, California; and the annual Herbert Ryman Living Master Art Show in Glendale,
California.
Robison currently resides in Southern California and Guadeloupe, French West Indies with
his wife, Angela and three children.
