74th Annual Academy Awards to Offer Interactive Programming

74th Annual Academy Awards to Offer Interactive Programming
ABC Television to Offer Enhanced TV Production, Sunday, March 24

Fans can interact live on their home computers with the ABC Television Network’s telecast of the 74th Annual Academy Awards presentation, when ABC’s Enhanced TV presents its interactive Academy Awards telecast. The Enhanced TV interactive programming of the Academy Awards presentation will be accessible via www.oscar.com, the official site of the Oscars ®, beginning at 8:00 p.m., ET, on Sunday, March 24.

The Enhanced TV coverage of the Academy Awards presentation will enable television viewers to interact in real time with the Awards telecast. MasterCard is sponsoring Enhanced TV’s “Guess the Winner” Game in which fans can guess the winners as each category is announced. Viewers can also participate in live interactive polls and access exciting movie trivia and facts. Components of the enhanced coverage include: ·

  • “Guess the Winner” Game (sponsored by MasterCard)
Users collect points for correctly guessing the winner in each award category. The top scorers are eligible for prizes. ·
  • Interactive Polls
Users participate in live interactive polls that relate to the on-screen action. For example, if an actor is presenting an award, a poll question might ask the viewers to vote for their favorite character played by that actor in his career. Moments after voting, Enhanced TV users can see the poll results on their computers. ·
  • Push Channel
A “Push Channel” of synchronized enhanced graphics, live polls and movie trivia automatically appears on users’ computer screens, relating specifically to what is taking place during the awards ceremony.

Last year over 460,000 users enjoyed Enhanced TV’s coverage of the 73rd Annual Academy Awards presentation, staying connected to Enhanced TV for an average of 39 minutes. “The Oscar ® telecast, with its widespread appeal that captures the interest of even the casual movie-goer, is the perfect platform for our Enhanced TV application,” says Rick Mandler, Vice President and General Manager, Enhanced TV. “The numerous interactive opportunities offered to viewers, including the friendly competition of the ‘Guess the Winner’ game, help keep those at home glued to the ABC telecast throughout the evening.”
