Oriental Land Says 285 MLN Guests Visited Disney Parks in Japan

2001 Fiscal Year Attendance Figure for Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea Parks

Oriental Land Co., Ltd. announced the 2001 fiscal year combined attendance figure for Tokyo Disneyland Park and Tokyo DisneySea Park. Between April 1, 2001 and March 31, 2002, a total of 22,047,000 guests visited the Parks. Altogether, some 285,117,000 guests have visited Disney Parks in Japan.

With the September opening of Tokyo DisneySea Park, this year marks the first with two Disney Parks contributing to the total attendance figure. The addition of a second park increased the appeal of Tokyo Disney Resort and overall attendance surpassed company expectations. A major factor contributing to the better-than-expected results was the introduction of new entertainment programs at Tokyo Disneyland Park before and after the opening of Tokyo DisneySea Park. This lessened the scale of the expected shift in attendance from one park to another. The nighttime parade, "Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade Dreamlights" and the Park's seasonal Special Events were especially popular with guests visiting Tokyo Disneyland.

Tokyo DisneySea Park, the first Disney Park in the world themed to myths and legends of the sea, created its own identity, offering a distinctly different themed entertainment experience and attracting a wide range of guests.

With two Disney Parks in operation, each offering its own distinct entertainment value, the overall image of Tokyo Disney Resort was significantly enhanced and its appeal spread to an even wider range of guests. Moreover, the presence of two Disney Parks had a significant impact on the increasing number guests staying in hotels around the Resort. Surpassing expectations, each Park clearly contributed to a successful year at Tokyo Disney Resort.

Note: Tokyo Disneyland was open for operations for 365 days and Tokyo DisneySea Park for 209 days in fiscal year 2001. Reference: Total Attendance through fiscal year 2000 was 17,300,000 guests (aged four years and over visiting Tokyo Disneyland Park (only)).
