Lead Actor Has Been Cast As
"Prince William," ABC's Film Based On the Life of the Royal Prince
Production Begins Late May 2002 in the United Kingdom
Jordan Frieda has been cast as His Royal Highness William Arthur Philip Louis Windsor of Wales in ABCs telefilm Prince William. The telefilm, which will dramatize the life of the royal prince from the death of his mother, Princess Diana, to his arrival at St. Andrews College, begins production in late May in the United Kingdom.
Mr. Frieda was cast this week after an extensive search was conducted throughout Great Britain, as well as Australia. Though relatively new to audiences in America, Mr. Frieda has appeared in the British feature film The Sleeping Dictionary and in the television shows 24 Seven and HBOs Band of Brothers. He has appeared in various British stage productions of Spinning into Butter, Britannicus, Cabaret, The Seagull, The Love of a Nightingale, Cyrano De Bergerac and Gemini. Prince William marks the London natives first leading role for television. Show business runs in his family, as Mr. Frieda is the son of British pop singer/actress Lulu, whom American audiences may recognize from her hit single To Sir with Love and her starring role opposite Sidney Poitier in the feature film of the same title. Mr. Friedas father is John Frieda, internationally renowned hair stylist and CEO of John Frieda Professional Hair Care Inc.
Other lead roles cast include British actors Martin Turner as Prince Charles, Eddie Cooper as Prince Harry and Carolyn Pickles as Camilla Parker Bowles.
Based on published accounts, Prince William is a coming-of-age story that touches on the Princes complicated yet loving relationship with his father, Prince Charles, his acceptance of Camilla Parker Bowles and her children, his close bond with his younger brother, Prince Harry, and his continuing battle to protect the memory of his mother. The telefilm will shoot in the United Kingdom and air as a presentation of The Wonderful World of Disney sometime during the 2002-03 season on the ABC Television Network.
Prince William will be executive-produced by Bonnie Raskin (Killing Mr. Griffin, The Tempest). The telefilm will be directed by Michael Watkins (CSI, Smallville) from a script written by Max Enscoe and Annie deYoung (ABCs The Facts of Life Reunion, the feature The Young Americans). The telefilm will be produced by Fox Television Studios via their Fox Television Pictures unit. Overseeing production will be David Madden, executive vice president, Fox Television Pictures, and ABC executive Quinn Taylor, senior vice president, Motion Pictures for Television & Miniseries.
