LPWire: DIS Records to Release 'Lizzie McGuire' Soundtrack

Walt Disney Records to Release 'Lizzie McGuire' Soundtrack; Series Star Hilary Duff Makes Musical Debut on Disc

On August 13, 2002, Walt Disney Records will release the soundtrack to the popular Disney Channel series "Lizzie McGuire."

"We are very pleased to be working alongside our colleagues at Disney Channel," says Damon Whiteside, Executive Director of Marketing, Walt Disney Records. "`Lizzie McGuire' is a quality program with a large and loyal fanbase. With the soundtrack, we will be giving the fans more of what they've come to expect from the show -- great entertainment that's contemporary and fun!"

The hit series "Lizzie McGuire" serves up the comic foibles of 14-year-old Lizzie McGuire (Hilary Duff) as she tries to survive seventh grade with her dignity -- and maybe a little popularity -- intact.

"The stories offer everyday, relatable slice-of-life experiences that invoke any kid -- or adult -- to say `I've been there!'" says Gary Marsh, executive vice president, original programming and production, Disney Channel.

The series airs Fridays (7:30 p.m. ET/PT) and weekends (1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. ET/PT) on Disney Channel. Because of its popularity, "Lizzie McGuire" was added to ABC Television Network's "One Saturday Morning" earlier this year (10:00 a.m. ET/PT).

The "Lizzie McGuire Soundtrack" is a collection of songs featured during the show's phenomenal first season. It includes performances from Smash Mouth, Jessica Simpson, Mandy Moore and The Jackson 5 in addition to the show's star, Hilary Duff.

"I recorded a song called `I Can't Wait' for the soundtrack," reports Duff. "I had never recorded a song before, so I didn't know what to expect. It turned out to be fun, but a lot of hard work, too. Overall, I'm really proud of what I was able to accomplish my first time out."

Duff's performance of "I Can't Wait" not only marks her singing debut, it also marks the inception of her music relationship with Walt Disney Records. She will be featured on at least one other Walt Disney Records CD and will release a Christmas album on the label.

The "Lizzie McGuire Soundtrack" will be available beginning August 13th wherever music is sold and will vary in price at retail. Walt Disney Records and Buena Vista Records audio products can also be ordered by visiting www.Disney.com/DisneyRecords or www.laughingplacestore.com.
