Touchstone Pictures' Signs, from writer-director M. Night Shyamalan, is once again the #1 movie in America in its fourth week of release, it was announced today (8/25) by Dick Cook, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. Signs grossed an estimated $14.360 million for the weekend of 8/23-25, a drop of only 25.8% from the previous weekend. To date, Signs has grossed an estimated $173.2 million.

Commenting on the announcement, Cook said, "We're thrilled that audiences everywhere are embracing Signs. M. Night Shyamalan is one of the most unique and original filmmakers of our time. That, combined with Mel Gibson's remarkable performance, has made Signs one of the most successful films of the summer. We are extremely proud of this film -- it has surpassed our greatest expectations."

Michael Eisner, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company, added, "The return of Signs to this position at the box office is a testament to the strong studio leadership at Disney as well as to the creative excellence of M. Shyamalan."

In Signs, everything that farmer Graham Hess (Mel Gibson) assumed about the world is changed when he discovers a message -- an intricate pattern of circles and lines -- carved into his crops. As Graham investigates the unfolding mystery, what he finds will forever alter the lives of his brother (Joaquin Phoenix) and children (Rory Culkin, Abigail Breslin).

Writer-director M. Night Shyamalan takes moviegoers on a new journey with Touchstone Pictures' Signs, a story that focuses on the real-life phenomena of crop circles and the effect they have on one man and his family. Shyamalan re-teams with producers Frank Marshall and Sam Mercer and executive producer Kathleen Kennedy and produces the project under his Blinding Edge Pictures banner along with Touchstone Pictures.
