Organizing an outdoor festival to celebrate the authentic cuisine, wine, entertainment and cultures of more than 30 international regions takes an amazing amount of planning. Continuing for 30 days, the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, Oct. 19-Nov. 17, is the largest food and wine event of its kind in the world, fanning around the promenade encircling World Showcase Lagoon at Walt Disney World Resort.
Here are a few of the remarkable facts about the seventh annual event:
- More than 200 national and international wines will be poured
- More than 76 kinds of international foods, each appetizer-sized portion priced $1-$4.50
- More than 125 of Americas most celebrated chefs and Walt Disney World chefs
- 840 wine and beer seminars featuring more than 80 topics
- Each night, 835 fireworks rockets explode over World Showcase Lagoon in IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth grand finale to the festival
- 22,000 bottles of wine and champagne
- 819,000 hors doeuvre plates
- 500,000 beer cups
- 400,000 forks
- 225,000 wine glasses
- 19,000 pieces of sushi
- 7,000 servings of honey glazed salmon
- 6,500 servings of lamb chops
- 5,000 barbecued chicken sandwiches
