Best Picture Nominations for Miramax's "Chicago," "Gangs of New York" and "The Hours"; Miramax sets Oscar record for most consecutive years with a nomination in Best Picture category

Buena Vista Motion Pictures Group garners three nominations in the Best Animated Feature Film Category

The Walt Disney Company today received an industry- leading 44 Oscar nominations from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, including 13 nominations for Miramax's "Chicago", 10 for "Gangs of New York" and nine for "The Hours," a co-production with Paramount Pictures. Miramax, which received the most nominations of any studio, set an industry record for most consecutive years with a Best Picture nomination. Nominations for "Chicago," "Gangs of New York" and "The Hours" mark Miramax's 11th consecutive year with a Best Picture nomination.

The 13 nominations for "Chicago" tied the record for most nominations for a musical, which was previously set by Disney's "Mary Poppins" in 1964. Nominations for "Chicago" included Best Picture, Directing, Actress in a Leading Role, Actor in a Supporting Role, Actress in a Supporting Role, Art Direction, Music (Song), Costume Design, Cinematography, Film Editing, Sound and Writing for an Adapted Screenplay.

"Gangs of New York" nominations include Best Picture, Directing, Actor in a Leading Role, Art Direction, Music (Song), Cinematography, Costume Design, and Writing (Original Screenplay).

Buena Vista Motion Pictures Group received three nominations for Best Animated Feature Film for Walt Disney Pictures "Lilo & Stitch," "Treasure Planet" and "Spirited Away."

"Today's nominations are a tribute to the talented creators who have developed such compelling content to audiences worldwide during the past year for The Walt Disney Company," said Disney Chairman and CEO Michael Eisner. "As evidenced by the nominations, this content has been delivered with the high quality for which Disney is known."

Miramax's "Frida" also received six nominations, including Actress in a Leading Role, Art Direction and Musical Score. Miramax's "Hero" is the first Chinese film ever to receive a nomination.
