Southcorp Sponsors "Australia:
Discover Down Under'' at Disney's 2003 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival
Visitors Will Learn about Australian Wine from Aussie Winemakers
Southcorp Wines, Australia's largest winemaker and producer of the premium wines from Penfolds, Rosemount Estate, Lindemans, and Wynns Coonawarra Estate, has partnered with the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida to present Australia, Discover Down Under. The month long Epcot International Food & Wine Festival will take place October 18 through November 16.
During its eight year history, the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival has hosted millions of guests from the U.S. and abroad. Featured this year will be a 3,000 square foot Australian experience that recreates Australia and gives visitors the chance to visit the wine regions, taste wine with the winemakers, explore authentic Australian cuisine, entertainment and culture, in an all-Aussie environment.
Discover Down Under actually looks like Australia, complete with indigenous Australian plants and a recreation of the Sydney Opera House. Famous geographic landmarks like Uluru (Ayer's Rock) and the Great Barrier Reef, Australia's myriad of strange and interesting animals, and the ancient Aboriginal culture, are all explained and experienced in the Aussie pavilion.
The highlights if the Australia: Discover Down Under are
1. Aussie Wine Walkabout
Winemakers take guests through a Walkabout of Australia's diverse wine regions, to learn about the distinct characteristics of different varieties in four different regions. Guests will then also visit the "blending table" to learn about the art of blending in Australian winemaking.
2. Australian Wine Education
Winemakers will conduct eight complimentary Mini Aussie Wine Seminars every day in the Discover Down Under Pavilion. In addition, seven one-hour Australian Wine Seminars will be held during the festival, demonstrating the influence of climate, region and winemaking techniques on Australian wine.
For more in-depth training on wine etiquette, styles, grape varieties and wine regions, a one day intensive Australian Wine School will be held three times on November 14, 15 and 16. Students will have the unique opportunity to create their own wine from winemaking components sent over from Australia to compare their wine to a finished Penfolds wine. Graduates of the Australian Wine School will be awarded with a certificate of completion.
3. Food and Wine Pairing
World-famous Australian lamb and beef will be featured throughout the festival. It will be served along with prawns in the Australian International Marketplace, paired with Australian wine. Both will also be featured at a special Australian Reserve Wine Dinner and several Demonstration Kitchen events.
4. Aboriginal Entertainment and Cultural Exhibits
Dancers from the Aboriginal Australia Arts and Culture Centre in Alice Springs will perform daily allowing festivalgoers an opportunity to see the traditional dances of the oldest culture in the world. Artists from the Aboriginal Australia Arts and Culture Centre will be carving didgeridoos and boomerangs as well as practicing the centuries-old Aboriginal art style of dot painting. There will be an area specifically dedicated to allowing children to try their hand at this amazing art style.
About Epcot
At Epcot, guests celebrate the fascinating cultures and numerous wonders of the world through dazzling shows, interactive experiences and amazing attractions. The Australian exhibit in the World Showcase will re-create an environment that will be the next best thing to actually being able to go to Australia.
