The Evil Madame Medusa Makes Her
Debut in the Walt Disney Classics Collection
New Numbered Limited Edition Sculpture Highlights Heroine and Villain from
Disneys The Rescuers
Enesco Group, Inc., a leader in the giftware, collectible and home decor industry, announced today the release of a new numbered limited edition sculpture from the Walt Disney Classics Collection that depicts villainy and innocence in the forms of the maniacal Madame Medusa and the charming Penny from Disneys hit animated film The Rescuers. Premiering at Walt Disney Classics Collection retailers nationwide, the new sculpture perfectly captures one of Disneys most zany contemporary villains in all her greed and glory.
The sculpture, entitled Teddy Goes with Me, My Dear (SRP: $299 - Height: 8 ¼), has been produced as a numbered limited edition of 1,977. Crafted by renowned Disney sculptor Kent Melton the new sculpture from The Rescuers captures in painstaking detail the crazy selfishness of Madame Medusa and the determination of little Penny.

The release of Teddy Goes with Me, My Dear continues the Walt Disney Classics Collections tradition of "plussing" sculptures with precious metals, crystals, blown glass and wood to enhance the believability and detail of each piece. The new finely crafted porcelain sculpture features such plussing elements as a crystal in Pennys bear (representing the Devils Eye diamond in the film, the worlds largest diamond), bead earrings on wire and pewter legs on Medusa.
As a veteran Disney animator I know how difficult it is to create believable animated characters, states noted Disney animator Andreas Dejas. Milt Kahl, one of Walt Disneys celebrated Nine Old Men of animation, left an indelible imprint on the Disney animation legacy. Madame Medusa was brought to vivid life by Milt, culminating a 42-year career as perhaps one of Disneys greatest artists. I am pleased that Milts last great character performance has been so faithfully rendered in three dimensions for the Walt Disney Classics Collection. The sculpture includes a signature card personally signed by Andreas Dejas in tribute to Milt Kahl.
Disneys The Rescuers was originally released on June 22, 1977 and quickly became one of the most popular films of the year. It features the voice talent of famed comedian Bob Newhart (Bernard), actress Eva Gabor (Miss Bianca) and legendary Disney sound effects expert Jimmy Macdonald (Evinrude). Someones Waiting For You, the films signature tune, was nominated for a Best Song Academy Award ®. The film was so popular that it led to a sequel in 1990 entitled The Rescuers Down Under.
The Rescuers is an important film in the history of Walt Disney Feature Animation as it represented a transition in leadership from Walt Disneys coterie of original animators to the younger animators who were recruited and trained in the early 1970s. Many of those animators have since contributed their considerable talents to such hit Disney animated features as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King.
