Moviegoers across the country will have a rare opportunity to spend an evening with the cinema's modern master of suspense -- M. Night Shyamalan -- as Regal CineMedia(SM) (RCM) and Touchstone Pictures present "In the Director's Chair(TM) with M. Night Shyamalan," a special retrospective and live "Q & A" session scheduled for Tuesday, July 20th, it was announced today (7/6/04) by Dennis Rice, Senior Vice President, The Walt Disney Studios. ABC's film critic Joel Siegel ("Good Morning America") will lead the Academy Award(R) nominated director ("The Sixth Sense," "Signs") in a discussion of his career and showcase exclusive footage from his upcoming Touchstone Pictures' film, "The Village." The retrospective and live interactive discussion, which starts at 9:00 pm (ET) and 6:00 pm (PT), will transmit from the "Good Morning America" Studio in New York, and be beamed via satellite to 41 Regal Entertainment Group ("REG") (NYSE: RGC) movie theatres across the country. Thousands of people across four time zones are expected to attend and participate in the live forum, and pre-selected audience members will also have the opportunity to ask questions directly to Shyamalan. Tickets for this exclusive in-theatre event go on sale today at select Regal Cinemas, United Artists Theatres and Edwards Theatres* nationwide and are also available online at www.regalcm.com. Admission price will be $10.
Commenting on the announcement, Rice said, "M. Night Shyamalan is one of the most original and inventive filmmakers of our generation and this special satellite session will give moviegoers a chance to ask him questions about his craft and gain insights into his creative process. Night's films have set a new standard for modern day suspense and his latest film, 'The Village,' is no exception. This exclusive 'In the Director's Chair' session is sure to be interesting, informative and lots of fun."
"This new 'In the Director's Chair' event is the latest example of how we are using Regal's Digital Content Network(SM) to deliver unique in-theatre experiences to people in local markets while helping content providers like Touchstone Pictures reach their promotional goals," added Ray Nutt, executive vice president, business development, Regal CineMedia. "It is exciting that our audiences can now not only see great movies in our theatres, but they also have the chance to interact with one of today's leading filmmakers."
Shyamalan's latest film, "The Village," is set to open in theatres nation wide on July 30th. Academy Award(R)-nominees Joaquin Phoenix and Sigourney Weaver and Academy Award(R) winners Adrien Brody and William Hurt and newcomer Bryce Dallas Howard star in this thrilling tale of an isolated village confronting the astonishing truth that lies just outside its borders. At first glance, this village seems picture perfect, but this close-knit community lives with the frightening knowledge that creatures reside in the surrounding woods. The evil and foreboding force is so unnerving that none dare venture beyond the borders of the village and into the woods. But when curious, headstrong Lucius Hunt plans to step beyond the boundaries of the town and into the unknown, his bold move threatens to forever change the future of the village.
Written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, "The Village" was produced by Shyamalan, Scott Rudin, and Samuel M. Mercer.
