One of the best special events at the Walt Disney World Resort is the annual EPCOT® International Food & Wine Festival. The combination of sights, tastes, smells, and even sounds make it one of my favorite times of the year to be at the Walt Disney World® Resort.

In late September, EPCOT’s World Showcase gains dozens of new tenants in the form of tasting booths offering sample portions of food and drink from exotic locales and usually one highlighted region of the US.  In between Soarin’ Over California or braving the Maelstrom, you can amble around the World Showcase Lagoon and take a whirlwind tour of the flavors of the world. The portions are just perfect; not too large to fill you up after one or two items, and not too small that you can’t share and still get a true taste for each dish. My family loves getting two or three items to try at each station and having our own little tasting panel at each booth that peaks our culinary curiosity.

Each year the festival adds a new country or two, as well as maintaining fan favorite booths with items like Canadian cheddar cheese soup, Lamb Sliders from New Zealand, Pastry and Cheese tray offerings from France as well as escargot for the daring, and Strudel from Germany.  There are also wonderful classes to take with acclaimed chefs, culinary demonstrations, wine tastings and pairings; they’ve even hosted representatives from Twinning’s to teach you how to brew the perfect cup of tea!

When you need a break from nibbling and sipping, you can stroll over to the America Gardens Theater to take in the acts that are performing during the Eat to The Beat Concert Series or peruse their amazing selection of wines from all of the participating countries and souvenir merchandise exclusive to the festival. My favorite is the cookbook they offer every year with recipes from all of the different countries!

The 17th Annual Epcot® International Food & Wine Festival takes place September 28, 2012–November 12, 2012. Park admission is required for the experience.  Ask your personal MouseEarVacations.com consultant for more details.
