Mickey celebrates his victory

In Celebration of Mickey
Despite my intentions, Mickey Mouse can be found in various places in my house. When Doobie and I were first married I had declared that while our apartment would be a Disney zone it would be Mickey-lite because there was plenty of other Disney stuff that could decorate its walls and shelves. However as I sit at my computer typing up this article I can spot nearly 70 Mickeys. So I just wanted to say Mickey, "I give up! You win! Our apartment is not Mickey-lite." As part of my newly realized concession I decided to highlight some of my favorite Mickeys in my home.
In the first grade as I was heading back into the classroom for lunch I spotted a lunchbox. It was shaped like a school bus and had Disney characters painted on it as if they were hanging out the windows. Goofy is the bus driver and the underbelly shows the gears and shaft of the vehicle. Since no one claimed it after two weeks I was able to take it home. It is bit rusted (in other words worn and loved) but it still houses my Viewmaster reel collection. It currently sits on the bottom shelf of the coffee table.
If you were able to dig through my dresser drawers and closet you would find a few sweatshirts and t-shirts with Mickey Mouse. My favorite dates back to 1989 or so. It was sold at Disneyland during one of my favorite promotional periods Blast to the Past. During this time guests were randomly chosen as they entered the park to receive prizes such as yo-yos, Frisbees, paddleballs that all had the Blast to the Past logo. I bet my family still has the Frisbee. They also had hula-hoop performers and classic 50s cars that were filled with musical groups who would sing the golden oldies. Im partial to those melodies even though I was born in the early 70s. The t-shirt has florescent colors which were popular at the time hot pink, hot orange and electric blue and green which made a short comeback recently. I love the posed Mickey and his friends just relaxing in a large convertible and Minnie laying on the hood looking sexy and yet not cheap. Too fun!
Throughout high school a large poster of Mickey and Minnie in a pink convertible hung on my wall. It was full of color with oranges and blues. The car was parked on the beach and it was getting close to sunset time and there were large palm trees and a gigantic wave approaching the shore in the background. The license plate said something to describe the scene but I cant quite remember it anymore. I adored that poster. It survived a couple of moves but not the one from California to Texas.
Small Mickey Happy Meal Toy
Placed upon the LaughingPlace.com file cabinet which is full of article clippings, paper napkins from various Disney restaurants, photos of Disney attractions and various other Disney paper products are a number of magnets and stickers with images of Mickey Mouse. My favorite is the Crossing Sign which features silhouettes of Mickey, Goofy and Donald.
Doobie has a Disney watch collection approaching nearly 40 total. Since he enjoys wearing these watches and they are so attractive I had to come up with a way to functionally display them. I covered foam core in Mickey themed wrapping paper and placed some thin fabric over it so they are more subtle. The watches hang by decorative push pins. 10 of his watches have Mickey Mouse on them in one way or another.
