61. Readers Turn - Projects to Re-visit
The past (60) issues of
Designer Times have told tales from behind the scenes of maybe fifty or so
projects in which I was invited to participate. From 1953 thru 2000, (243)
projects of all kinds were started. Some never got past preliminary design,
others realized the physical test prototype stage only to die a welcome
death.....dumb designs have their own special heaven and remain gratefully
forgotten. One job ran for twelve miserable years with a zero result. But the
good ones have provided pleasure to probably half a billion happy folks.
So I've spared Designer Times readers the tales of these stupid, ordinary, or
just plain uninteresting efforts at bringing good themed entertainment to an
ever more sophisticated guest.
But now, dear reader, it's your turn in the pulpit. Tell LaughingPlace, com what
you'd enjoy learning next. Maybe you have a favorite project to re-visit in more
detail, or just plain old questions out of the blue. Doobie and I will then see
if we can put together some more tales in the coming months....all by request.
My old Mac keyboard is primed and waiting.
[Ed Note: On behalf of the staff and readers of LaughingPlace.com I'd like to thank Bob Gurr for taking the time to contribute stories from his career over the past five years. When I approached Bob about the possibility of his writing for us, I honestly didn't think he'd say yes. But surprisingly he did and and at five years his is the longest running regular column on the website. I look forward to seeing what ideas you, the readers, have for future columns and seeing what Bob has in store for the next five years. Please leave your suggestions on the Discussion Boards, using the Talk Balk section below or via email to Doobie@LaughingPlace.com.Thank you, Bob!]

-- Bob Gurr
Bob Gurr began working with Disney in 1954. He retired in 1981 but occasionally consults for the Company. Since Disney he's worked on the sinking ship at Las Vegas' Treasure Island, Universal Studios' King Kong, Godzilla for the film by the same name and much more. Among his proudest accomplishments he lists "making Walt tickled pink that some of the things he wanted to build actually worked. You could tell how proud he was when he would show off things to his friends and the press. Lincoln and the Monorail were two big ones for him."
Designer Times is normally posted the second Wednesday of each month.
The opinions expressed by Bob Gurr, and all of our columnists, do not necessarily represent the feelings of LaughingPlace.com or any of its employees or advertisers. All speculation and rumors about the future of Disneyland and the Walt Disney Company are just that - speculation and rumors - and should be treated as such.
