In his welcoming comments, Hahn noted that he could spot several familiar faces in the crowd. The evening of Disney Rarities has become something of a tradition, having kicked off four years earlier with a visit from Roy E. Disney.

The first short feature was a lengthy excerpt from a Disney educational film, Steel and America. Produced in 1965, a number of legendary Disney animation talents were listed in the films credits. Director was Les Clark, one of Walts Nine Old Men. Hahn and Bossert made special mention of animator Cliff Norberg, Disney studio composer George Bruns, and artists Dave Jonas, Ken OConnell, Frank Armitage and Bob McCray. Animated sequences featured Donald Duck as an early ironworker, who is introduced to modern steel making techniques.

Hahn and Bossert also pointed out the reuse of animated sequences from the Disney film library, a theme that would be repeated throughout the evening.
Next up was a short public service film, made on behalf of the Community Chest. The Volunteer Worker, released in 1940, featured Disneys biggest star, Donald Duck. In their introduction, Hahn and Bossert pointed out that the Community Chest eventually evolved into todays United Way.
