Disney Animation
Disney’s Animation
My description: From the moment you enter the courtyard you become immersed in animation.
The courtyard is a beautiful display of Disney animation from the past and present. I was
impressed on how clear the projections are, especially with how old some of the movies
were. There are actually four different segments of animation, so I will discuss them on
their own. Overall, you could easily spend an hour inside the building.
I give the entire attraction a 9 out of 10.
Animation Screening Room
This is the film "Back to Neverland" that plays before the Animation Tour in
Disney-MGM Studios. It stars Walter Cronkite and Robin Williams. I found the film a little
dated at times, but the acting of the celebrities is still fun to watch. The movie is
informative and educational without being dull or boring. I found the lack of seats in the
waiting area of the Screening Room a little irritating.
I give The Screening Room showing "Back to Neverland" a 6 out of 10.
Drawn to Animation
This is a multimedia presentation starring an animator and Mushu. Together they take you
through the process of developing characters for animation. The presentation is hilarious
and quite unique. The interaction between the live actor and Mushu on screen is
excellently done. At the end you exit into the Art of Animation exhibit.
I give Drawn to Animation an 8 out of 10.
The Beast's Library in the Sorcerer's Workshop
Sorceror’s Workshop
This is a walk-through of three interactive areas. The first area allows you to create
your own animation and test it on old fashioned animation wheels. The second area gives
you a personality test to see which Disney character you are most like. This room has some
cool transformation effects so make sure to stay around to watch them. The last area
fulfills anybody’s dream of their voice being used in a Disney film. First you can
choose to act or sing. Then you are given four clips from recent and past Disney films.
After watching the clip you and doing a rehearsal, you record over the original vocals. At
the end you watch the finished product. It’s a lot of fun and worth doing several
times. The whole walk-through is great, especially if you have children.
I give Sorceror’s Workshop a 7 out of 10.
The Art of Animation
A display of concept art and used ideas for characters. Worth a look, especially for
animation fans.
I give the Art of Animation a 4 out of 10.
Steps in Time
Hyperion Theater
Their description: Magnificent 2,000 seat theater
My description: A beautiful and lavish theater that’s reminiscent of El Capitan. The
lack of bathrooms and too many steps keep it from being perfect.
I give the theater a 9 out of 10.
There was a show called "Steps in Time" that played. Without going into the
details (since it’s changing) I would give it an 8 out of 10.
