Paris' Walt Disney Studios Park - Part 4

The first act is called the “Ballet” and features our “good guy” being chased by the baddies. The action that unfolds is breath-taking with split-second timing with seamless transitions from one movement to another. The five baddies are housed within small black Vauxhall Corsas (similar to a GM Geo) while the hero of the movie is racing around the esplanade in a red concept car. The beauty of this attraction is that at the end of each scene, the director replays the action and explains how each stunt is performed with particular attention being paid to the use of switched cars and specially altered cars that create illusions that are integral to the scene.

The following two scenes use a mixture of motorbikes, jetskis and motor vehicles performing stunts on a variety of platform lifts, jumps and specially adapted juggernauts to assist the action. The action is faultless and the scenes unfold in near perfection. The comedy is slick and professional, especially when Herbie the Love Bug enters the action, but ends up in pieces! The finale is stunning as a car is projected through a second floor window, down into a truck and then up an elevated ramp, leaping the river to end up heading straight for the audience (before disappearing down the exit). The visual effects look dangerous and real, but the control is measured and secure. This show will play to packed houses for many years to come.

Oh, and that dispute with the fire authorities? The designers of the show originally planned for a huge fireball as the car in the final frame jumps the river towards the audience, but the flames were too intense for the authorities to stomach. The attraction technicians still want to add this “spice” to the grand finale and intend to fight the fire department to reinstate the visual effects as planned.
