And there's such a powerful feeling of money in this place... That's not to say that everyone's rich, but there are a lot of people here with a lot of money.

Just looking around, it's not surprising that that per capita there are more Rolls Royce automobiles in Hong Kong than anywhere else in the world.

This place is having a tough time economically, though. The apparently unnecessary exodus which occurred prior to the region's hand-over to China hit it hard and, as an export center, it's reliant on the world. We know what's been happening there lately... But tough times mean something else in Hong Kong.

The gateway of China's exports, Hong Kong's sprawling, state of the art container facilities at Kwai Chung handle roughly 18 million cargo containers a year. Despite the slowdown, they're still the busiest in the world.

It's also the largest financial center in Asia outside of Japan, a significant hub for business between Asia and the rest of the world.

And, it's a favorite tourist destination, currently the 14th most popular in the world (with projections moving it up 4th place by the year 2020). This is an especially impressive statistic when it's considered that the region of Hong Kong has a land area of only 415 square miles and the 13 locations ranked above it are all large countries.

Money still flows through this splendid city at a feverish pace. The massive skyscraper and infrastructure construction projects throughout Hong Kong would lead one to assume that it's booming, not struggling.
But many of these projects have been financed by the government in an effort to keep Kong Kong's residents employed and its construction industry intact through this rough patch. Unfortunately, due to events beyond its control, that patch just seems to keeps going...

The ultimate subject of this report is very much a part of the public sector funded economic recovery strategy of the SAR. But I'm getting ahead of things... Back to the mind-blowing Hong Kong that already exists -

Nightlife on Hong Kong Island is centered on the trendy after work bars and restaurants of Lan Kwai Fong and SoHo, but those area's are for those who want to play it safe.
