Reports on this project's problems are virtually the only news to make it's way out of the region and, in my opinion, they haven't been reported on well in many cases.
In upcoming reports I'll take a detailed look at those problems - dead fish... unexploded bombs... questioning in Hong Kong of the seemingly lopsided deal made by the SAR with the Walt Disney Company... and other criticisms, many of which began before the first load of silt was dredged off the floor of Penny's Bay.
But despite those problems, one simple fact remains - Work on this project continues at an intense pace... because, for Hong Kong - it must.
But I'm getting ahead of myself again. We're here and it's now . Here is northeast Lantau Island and now is the mid-day sauna-like heat and humidity (that's not really an exaggeration) of mid-summer 2002.
As usual, there's much more going on than can be seen on the surface.
But what's happening here? What's all this big equipment actually doing?
