Mission: Space Merchandise

This conception can be firmly found on the items available in the stunning Mission:Space store. The Disney Design Group (“DDG?) have conceived of two separate ranges for each target audience in this first season of the latest E-ticket at WDW. The first employs a stylised image of the pavilion itself, with its curved metallic blades reaching for the sky, and scale models of the three planets that play a crucial role on the attraction itself, namely Earth, our Moon and Mars. This range is predominantly produced on black items, in order that the silver outline of the show building is more prominent. In addition, those key words “Pioneer Crew 2003? will ensure that the shelves are empty on a regular basis, as WDW dated apparel is very popular as guests buy items to remember a specific vacation. This upscale design can be found on tees (as modelled by LP’s own professional model, Lindsay!), metal keyrings, magnets and mugs.

The second adult range features the X-2 shuttle that is the vehicle that takes guests to Mars on the attraction itself. Guests visiting the Mission:Space Preview Center in Innoventions East will have seen a scale model of the X-2 and an artistic rendering of the shuttle hurtling through space towards the Red Planet. This image can be found on a selection of items from a poster to a beach towel to postcards. In addition, guests can even find scale models of the X-2 for your office desk and a children’s play toy that is loaded with features such as noises and flashing lights.

The childrens’ ranges are more fun and lack the seriousness of the adult offerings. Naturally, the Fab Five can be found on virtually every item. Unusually for WDW, much of the kids’ items are designed with the boys of the family in mind. The child version of the “Pioneer Crew 2003? design features a full-faced Mickey, protected by his cuboidal space helmet. The knowing scowl is a nod to the intensity of this attraction. Again, this image can be found on a plethora of products including a grey tee (as modelled by LP’s rather less professional model, Lee - and sadly, yes, as a 27-year old, he can easily fit into the largest kid’s sizes!).

The other kids’ ranges play firmly on the theme of the Fab Five exploring space. One of the best designs sees all five of the gang standing on the surface of Mars, proud of their achievement and a triumphant Mickey pointing outwards. This image not only adorns the wall behind the cash registers as an original painting but also the usual goodies like beach towels and postcards.
