Belle's Christmas Village

Beyond Main Street U.S.A., the focus for the season is centred on the most northern walkways of Fantasyland. Between it's a small world and Alice's Curious Labyrinth, Disneyland designers have once again recreated the quaint village that is home to Belle in Disney's Beauty & the Beast. A series of lopsided wooden buildings are home to a series of open-air stores and catering facilities. This recreation is more akin to the temporary carts that grace the Central Plaza at Tokyo Disneyland during certain festivals. The twisting and tapering walkways behind the Mad Hatter's Tea Cups that lead to the seasonal attractions such as Casey Junior and Les Pays des Contes de Fees (similar to the Storybookland Cruise at Disneyland) are adorned with a host of beautiful decorations and even snow machines that sporadically spew fake snow onto guests as they peruse the merchandise. Even The Old Mill, a small Ferris Wheel-type ride that is unique to Disneyland park is dressed for the season, with giant presents poking out of the stationary buckets.

In addition to the storefronts, Belle's Christmas Village also features two unique shows. The first is a small traditional puppet show that is performed throughout the day. The second is a more substantial offering in the form of Belle's Musical Medley. In a small courtyard that is home to tables and chairs during the summer months for the Old Mill Refreshments stand, a carbon copy of the fountain in Belle's village during the opening number in the movie is the centrepiece, as guests gather around the iron railings of the surrounding walkways. A dozen performers dance and mime their way through a series of numbers from the movie, such as Belle and Gaston with the added bonus of the As Long as There's Christmas song from the first direct-to-video sequel. The short show has no storyline beyond the lyrics themselves, but is a thoroughly enjoyable spectacle, especially due to the setting of the village itself.
