Relive the Magic: “In Sickness and in…well…

The effect is very nicely done with projections. It is an added treat to what used to be a much underused space, a sort of transition between the Ballroom and the Graveyard. Unfortunately, this means the story of the mansion itself has to be changed. Now the bride is no longer a forlorn figure, her heart beating in loneliness and loss, but heartless Constance, a black widow preying on her rich husbands.

This is the latest in a series of transformations through the mansion in the last couple of years. Some are simply technological pluses: clearer sound systems, lighting. It seems that the ghosts within these walls are also getting a dusting and updating. It is all adding spice to the otherwise staid and serene setting of the old New Orleans plantation house. Paul Frees has never sounded better; neither has Eleanor Audley.

This is the annual passholder’s dream: Returning to the park regularly to see what new tweaks are being added to old favorites, as we all ramp up for the new Pirates in June. I can’t wait to see what is to be done next.
