STOLEN LIVES PREMIERE
Auto theft prevention film Stolen Lives to premiere in Vancouver
A new, made-in-BC documentary which may be the first to chronicle the tragic consequences of auto theft is a powerful example of what can happen when groups who share a commitment to youth, education and auto crime prevention work together.
Stolen Lives, which premieres Thursday, May 3 in Vancouver, is a compelling film produced by Odd Squad Productions (OSP) with sponsorship from the Autoplan Broker Road Safety Program (a partnership of the Credit Union Insurance Services Association, Insurance Brokers Association of BC and ICBC) and the support of the Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team (IMPACT). The gritty, 34-minute film, which will begin touring BC high schools this fall, combines dramatic arrests with moving interviews with car thieves and their victims. It aims to educate youth about the link between drug addiction and auto theft, and stop the tragedies before they happen. More than 100 people are expected to attend the Stolen Lives premiere, including a host of VIP guests such as BC Solicitor General John Les, Attorney General Wally Oppal and the Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister for Public Safety. Stolen Lives is just one example of how the Autoplan Broker Road Safety Program (ABRSP) is working to reduce auto-related injuries, fatalities and crimes in BC. Through their involvement in the ABRSP, Autoplan brokers sponsor and participate in a wide range of local, regional and provincial initiatives designed to educate the public and spark positive road safety behaviour change.
