Twelve Disneyland Resort Restaurants Win Southern California Restaurant Writers Awards - (DL) (5/30/2007)
At the annual Southern California Restaurant Writers (SCRW) Awards Banquet held at the Disneyland Hotel earlier this month, Disneyland Resort restaurants Yamabuki, Steakhouse 55 (formerly known as Granvilles Steakhouse) and Napa Rose were recognized as a few of Southern Californias best, receiving Golden Sceptre awards the highest honor in their respective categories. To receive a Golden Sceptre award, restaurants need to tally more than 95 points on the SCRW score sheets and then be elected by a special vote of SCRW members. Restaurants are judged on food, service, ambiance and beverages.

Disney's 'Pirates' Rule the Global Box Office With Biggest Opening of All Time; Film's Unprecedented Booty Of $401 Million Is a New Industry Record - (DL) (5/29/2007)
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End had the biggest opening ever, grossing $401,000,000 worldwide in the first six days of release.  The movie was shown on 29,000 screens worldwide and 1,064 screens in the United States showed the film digitally.

Disney's Pirates Film Has Pulled in $58 Million in Its First Two Days - (DL) (5/25/2007)

"Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," the epic new adventure from Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films, landed a phenomenal worldwide gross of $58 million in its first two days of pre-weekend release, it was announced today by Mark Zoradi, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Marketing and Distribution.



Build-A-Bear Workshop(R) and Disney Send Winnie the Pooh On A Starlight Starbright Adventure - (DL) (5/25/2007)
Build-A-Bear Workshop will ask guests that build a Winnie the Pooh bear to build a second one, free of charge, that will be donated to a Starlight Starbright child at a local children's hospital.  The promotion will take place through June 30, 2007.  There is a Build-A-Bear workshop at Downtown Disney at the Disneyland Resort

Disney Cruise Line Arrives In Europe, Begins First-Ever Mediterranean Cruises - (DL) (5/25/2007)
The Disney Cruise Line announced that the Disney Magic arrived in Barcelona beginning a Summer of European cruises.  Guests onboard these special cruises will have new entertainment, deck parties, and children activities specially created for these cruises.

Disney Announces Details for Completion of Spin-off and Subsequent Merger of ABC Radio Business - (DL) (5/25/2007)
The Walt Disney Company announced that shareholder of record at the close of business on June 6, 2007 will recieve approximately .0766 shares of ABC Radio Holdings stock which will subsequently merge with Citadel Broadcasting Corporation.  The expected closing date of the transaction is June 12th.

Radio Disney World Premiere Music From "High School Musical 2" Friday May 25 - (DL) (5/23/2007)

Radio Disney will hold the "Planet Premiere" of "What Time Is It", the first single from High School Musical 2 on Friday, May 25th at 8:00 am ET with replays during each airshift.  The opening number from the sequel features Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu, and Monique Coleman. 



Disney Book Group Launches Unprecedented Publishing Program in Support of Pirates of the Caribbean - (DL) (5/21/2007)
The Disney Book Group issued a press release regarding its publishing program associated with Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.  The number of books shipped for this film surpasses the number of books for the last two filnms combined, with over 9 million Pirates of the Caribbean books sold worldwide.

Pirates of the Caribbean Fans with a Nintendo DS Can Search for Hidden Treasure at Disney Parks - (DL) (5/21/2007)
Starting tomorrow, guests with the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Nintendo DS video game will be able to download exclusive content at hot spots near the attractions at Walt Disney World and Disneyland.  The "X-marks-the-spot" hot spots will unlock perks such as unlimited health, new costumes, and other fun extras.  The game will be available for purchase at both parks for those with Nintendo DS systems that want to get in on the fun.

Paul Candland Becomes New Managing Director of The Walt Disney Company Japan - (DL) (5/21/2007)
The Walt Disney Company announced that Paul Candland will be the managing director of The Walt Disney Company (Japan) Ltd on June 1st.  He is currently head of Disney ABC International Television and Disney Channel and will retain that role while taking on the new responsibility of leading the company's local brand marketing and new business initative in Japan

SOAR Files 21,243 Signatures to Qualify Referendum Protecting Anaheim Resort District - (DL) (5/21/2007)
The Disney sponsored Save Our Anaheim Resort coalition collected 21,243 signatures on a referendum to overturn the City Council's decision to allow residential development in the Anaheim Resort district.  Once the signatures are verified the City Council can rescind its decision or place the issue on the ballot

NBC's 'Today' Picks Disney Book Group's Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan for 'Al's Book Club For Kids' - (DL) (5/19/2007)
The Disney Book Group announced that "Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 1: The Lightning Thief" by Rick Riordan, was picked as the second selection of "Al's Book Club for Kids" on NBC's Today.  The book was published in June 2005 and will be featured, along with the author, on the June 15th edition of Today.

Disney Family.com and Sony Electronics are launching the Disney Family Learning Center.  The website will offer online courses will be launched at the begining of each month.

Disney-ABC International Television Latin America and Univision Sign Unprecedented Strategic Production Agreement - (DL) (5/15/2007)
Disney-ABC International Television Latin American and Univision announced a production aggrement to do a Spanish language version of Desperate Housewives for the Hispanic viewiers in the United States.  The show, called Amas de Casa Desesperadas will air next season in primetime on Univision.

Walt Disney Pictures Gives Audiences across America a Chance to Show off Their Dogs in a Major Motion Picture - (DL) (5/15/2007)
Walt Disney Pictures announced the "UNDERDOG Super Pet Contest" where guests can go to Disney.com and submit videos of their dog doing something super.  Visitiors will be able to vote among the finalists on June 8-14 with  the top[ two winning a trip to the premiere in Los Angeles.  Selected entries will appear in the films end credits as well.  The UNDERDOG payoff trailer will premiere on Disney.com and with Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

Walt Disney World Resort Donates $12.5 Million to Dr. P. Phillips Orlando Performing Arts Center - (DL) (5/15/2007)
Walt Disney World announced a $12.5 million donation to the Dr. P. Phillips Orlando Performing Arts Center where Walt Disney World will sponsor one of the two performing halls.  Walt Disney World also celebrated the $1 million renovation of the Walt Disney Amphiteater at Lake Eola Park and well as $700,000 in other grants to 38 Central Florida charities.

Disney Parks Launches First-Of-Its-Kind Programming For Interactive Cable Networks; Introducing Disney Travel on Demand - (DL) (5/15/2007)
Disney Parks announced Disney Travel on Demand for Cablevision and Time Warner Cable customers.    The programming will include regular series as well as special programming.  The video on demand channel will debut on Time Warner Cable the week of May 21 and on Cablevision the week of May 29th.

Tokyo Disneyland: Announcement of New Mid-term Business Plan "Innovate OLC 2010" - (DL) (5/11/2007)
Oriental Land Co., Ltd. announced “Innovate OLC 2010,” a new mid-term business plan effective through March 2011. Through profit growth and appropriate allocation of resources, the plan will build a management base for stable long-term growth for the OLC Group, while also working to provide the general public with emotionally moving experiences. The next four years will serve as “a period to promote new growth for the OLC Group” under the challenging business environment of Japan with its diversification in people’s values, declining birth rate, aging population and changes in employment conditions.

Disney/Pixar's Ratatouille to Kick off the Summer with ``Big Cheese Tour'' - (DL) (5/11/2007)

"The Big Cheese Tour" to celebrate the upcoming release of Ratatouille will begin at Walt Disney World's Boardwalk on May 11th. The interactive experience will be highlighted by a thrilling Big Cheese Slide which will give kids an exciting ride down a 25 wedge of cheese. Audiences will also be treated to a special sneak peek at Ratatouille inside the 30 state-of-the-art Eiffel Tower Digital Theater. A Center Stage area features daily cooking demonstrations with a real chef featuring Tasty Treats and Healthy Snacks for busy families as well as daily shows featuring Ratatouille Video Game demonstrations, radio promotions and an inside look at how the animation for Ratatouille was created. Tour goers will also be able to see multiple making-of pieces at various kiosks.



Legendary Golden Horseshoe Performer Fulton Burley Passes Away - (DL) (5/11/2007)
Fulton Burley, the wisecracking Irish tenor who entertained millions of Disneyland guests for 25 years as the popular star and master of ceremonies at the long-running Golden Horseshoe Revue, passed away on Monday May 7th at Sunrise Assisted Living at La Costa in Carlsbad, California. The cause of death was heart failure. He was 84 years old. Burley also provided the voice of the Irish parrot, Michael, for the Enchanted Tiki Room attraction at Disneyland, and toured the country on numerous occasions hosting live shows to promote theatrical reissues of such popular Disney films as “The Jungle Book,” and “Cinderella.” He was honored as a “Disney Legend” in a special ceremony at the Studio in 1995.
