Disney Marks Entry into Robotic Toy Market with New Line of Programmable Toy Robots - (DL) (4/30/2008)

 

Disney Consumer Products today announced its entry into the robotic toy market with an innovative line of robotic toy products created in collaboration with Pixar Animation Studios, Thinkway Toys and WowWee.

The robotic toys are inspired by WALL·E, the adorable robot from the Disney·Pixar theatrical release of the same name set to debut this summer, and Tinker Bell, the beloved Disney Fairy. The iDance WALL·E dancing boombox will be available in June; the Ultimate WALL·E robotic toy and the remote control Tinker Bell flying toy will be available this fall. With life-like movements and features designed to impress and delight fans of all ages, these new robotic toys are anticipated to be big hits with holiday shoppers this year.



Massive Crown Turns Out For First Open Casting Session for "High School Musical: Summer Session" - (DL) (4/30/2008)
Despite triple-digit temperatures, a massive crowd of teens turned out Sunday (April 27) in Long Beach for the first open casting call for ABC's new summer reality series, Disney's "High School Musical: Summer Session" (working title). Teens from as far away as Wisconsin, Texas, Colorado, Utah and Washington were among the throngs who gathered for the open audition. Host Nick Lachey welcomed the crowd as they lined up in front of the Long Beach Arena.

The Walt Disney Studios is launching Disneynature, a prestigious new production banner that will literally go to the ends of the earth to produce major big screen nature documentaries, Studios Chairman Dick Cook announced. In the great tradition established by Walt Disney himself, Disneynature will offer spectacular entertainment about the world in which we live. The significance of the new banner goes beyond the studio, with The Walt Disney Company embracing this new initiative around the world through a number of its businesses, including publications, licensing, parks and educational outreach. Disney veteran Jean-Francois Camilleri, who has served as senior vice president and general manager for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures France will head the new unit. Ollie Johnston passes away at 95 - official obituary - (DL) (4/15/2008)
Ollie Johnston, one of the greatest animators/directing animators in animation history and the last surviving member of Walt Disney’s elite group of animation pioneers known affectionately as the “Nine Old Men,” passed away from natural causes at a long term care facility in Sequim, Washington on Monday April 14th. He was 95 years old. During his stellar 43-year career at The Walt Disney Studios, he contributed inspired animation and direction to such classic films as “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” “Pinocchio,” “Fantasia,” “Song of the South,” “Cinderella,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Peter Pan,” “Lady and the Tramp,” “Sleeping Beauty,” “Sword in the Stone,” “Mary Poppins,” “The Jungle Book,” “Robin Hood,” “The Rescuers,” and “The Fox and the Hound.”

Disney Online, the longstanding No. 1 destination on the Internet for kids and families, continued its digital dominance for the first quarter of 2008, breaking all previous quarterly traffic records with an average of more than 27.3 million unique visitors per month. First quarter 2008 marks the one-year anniversary of the complete redesign of Disney.com and audiences have responded to the new online offerings with a 22 percent increase year-over-year in average monthly visitors to Disney Online (2007 vs. 2008 Q1 average monthly uniques). Disney Onlines quarterly traffic record was also well above its closest competitor, Nickelodeon Kids & Family Network sites.

CTC Media, Inc., Russia's leading independent media company, has concluded a major, multi-year licensing agreement with The Walt Disney Company's international TV licensing arm, Disney-ABC International Television. This agreement covers the licensing of features, live action series, animated series and made-for-TV movies for the CTC television network. The CTC Network -- the flagship of CTC Media -- is the fourth-most watched broadcaster in Russia with an average audience share of 11.3% in its target demographic (everyone aged 6-54) in 2007.

After three captivating weeks of online voting for Disney Parks’ Top 10 Chief Magic Official (CMO) candidates, Disney Parks and CareerBuilder.com today announced the top three CMO finalists: David Hawley of Roseville, Calif., Justin Vance Muchoney from Seven Fields, Pa. and Tripp West from Powder Springs, Ga. The CMO search generated more than 1,300 entries and nearly 500,000 online votes.
