Disney Cruise Line Creating More Magic at Castaway Cay - (DL) (8/31/2009)

Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island paradise in the tropical waters of the Bahamas, is getting an extra dose of pixie dust.  Enhancements will provide guests with more water-based family-fun, additional conveniences and a slice of beachside luxury all designed to complement the idyllic island setting.  The additional island amenities are scheduled to be complete by summer 2010, in time for special five-night cruises aboard the Disney Wonder with two stops at Castaway Cay, and the Disney Dream cruise ship which starts sailing in early 2011.

Disney Daytime Emmy Winners - (DL) (8/31/2009)

The Disney Company's Disney/ABC Television Group Receives 19 Daytime Emmy Awards at the 36th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards (Aug 29 - 30, 2009). Among the highlights ABC's "The View" received four Daytime Emmy Awards and made history when the honor of Outstanding Talk Show Host was bestowed on Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd. It was the first time in the 36 year history of NATAS that multiple talk show hosts were bestowed this honor. The women of "The View" have been nominated for 12 consecutive years in this category; this was their first win.

Dancing with the Stars' Donny Osmond to Appear at the D23 Expo, September 10 - (DL) (8/28/2009)

Virginia Davis McGhee Obituary - (DL) (8/18/2009)

Virginia Davis McGhee, Walt Disney’s first star and the lead child actress in his landmark silent “Alice Comedies,” passed away at her home in Corona, California from natural age-related causes on Saturday (8/15).  She was 90-years-old.  McGhee made a total of 13 “Alice” films for Disney (with such intriguing titles as “Alice Hunting in Africa,” “Alice’s Spooky Adventure,” “Alice’s Wild West Show,” “Alice Cans the Cannibals,” and “Alice Gets Stung”), and went on to appear in other roles as a child and supporting actress (including “Three on a Match,” and “The Harvey Girls”).  She frequently participated in a variety of Disney fan celebrations, including a recent Disney historical gathering in Kansas City, Missouri, in May, 2009, and an event in Anaheim in July, 2009, hosted by the National Fantasy Fan Club.  In 1998, The Walt Disney Company honored McGhee for her contributions to the Studio by naming her a “Disney Legend.”

According to just released data from comScore Media Metrix, Disney Online, which produces the No. 1 ranked community-family and parenting destination on the Web, broke all-time traffic records in July 2009, reaching nearly 34 million unique visitors and beating the previous all-time record of 32.3 million uniques set in August 2008. Disney Online traffic was up month-over-month across all key measurements in July, including unique visitors (+8%), page views (+17%), time spent (+29%) and average daily visits (21%).
