Production Commences on Marvel's The Avengers - (DL) (4/26/2011)

Production has commenced today in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Marvel Studios' highly anticipated movie "Marvel's The Avengers," directed by Joss Whedon ("Serenity") from a screenplay by Whedon.  The film will continue principal photography in Cleveland, Ohio and New York City. Robert Downey, Jr. ("Iron Man," "Iron Man 2") returns as the iconic Tony Stark/Iron Man along with Chris Hemsworth ("Thor") as Thor, Chris Evans ("Captain America: The First Avenger") as Captain America, Jeremy Renner ("Thor," "The Hurt Locker") as Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo ("The Kids Are Alright") as Hulk, Scarlett Johansson ("Iron Man 2") as Black Widow, Clark Gregg ("Iron Man," "Thor") as Agent Phil Coulson, and Samuel L. Retired Disney Consumer Products Chairman Bo Boyd Passes Away at 68 - (DL) (4/21/2011)

Retired Disney Consumer Products Chairman Barton K. “Bo” Boyd, 68, passed away suddenly of heart failure on April 13, 2011 at his home in Mesquite, Nevada. Boyd named president of Disney Consumer Products in 1985 and appointed chairman of the rapidly expanding global operations in 1997.

The Lion King North American Tour Opens Tonight in Toronto - (DL) (4/20/2011)

The Toronto return of Disney’s THE LION KING opens tonight, Wednesday April 20 at 7:30pm at the Princess of Wales theatre for a limited engagement of 8 weeks through Sunday June 12, 2011.  

In Toronto, THE LION KING plays Tuesday through Saturday evenings 7:30pm, Saturday matinees at 2pm and Sundays at 1pm and 6:30pm. There will also be 2pm Wednesday matinees on April 20, May 18, May 25, June 1 and June 8.  There will not be performances on Tuesday, May 24 and Tuesday, May 31.  “Thus far sales have exceeded our expectations, but there are still great seats available” said Jack Eldon, Vice President, Domestic, Disney Theatrical Productions.”

Walt Disney World Weather Report for April 20 from @WDW_Weather - (DL) (4/20/2011)

Nothing like a summertime pattern many weeks before the official start of summer!  That's what we experienced yesterday and that's what we may well again experience once again today.

The east and west coast sea breezes got together and had a little party yesterday afternoon - and this phenomenon my friends is why Florida has the proud distinction of being the lightning capital of the world!  The wet season shouldn't really officially be here for another couple of weeks, but you get the idea.  The sun comes up - it gets hot - sea breezes form on both coasts, then push inland - they collide over Walt Disney World and you know the rest.

That said one of the really cool things about being in the park is that it can be raining all around you, but not actually where you are which is exactly what happened yesterday.  A few miles to our north it was pouring - trust me!  So let's keep our fingers crossed for a repeat performance today.  

It will be hot with temperatures once again right around 90 and plenty of sunshine to go around.  There isn't a lot of moisture to work with so again - I'm not EXPECTING widespread rain - but with these localized phenomenon you can't rule out a chance for a shower.  The rest of the week is pretty much a carbon copy though Friday with nighttime lows getting down in the mid 60s.

“African Cats” is still more than two weeks from opening on Earth Day, but moviegoers have already bought $1.7 million in tickets to see the movie during its opening week (April 22-28) and save the African savanna in the process. Disney Stars Win Big at the 2011 Kid's Choice Awards - (DL) (4/5/2011)

Mega-stars including Johnny Depp, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, The Black Eyed Peas, Miley Cyrus, Jennette McCurdy, Eddie Murphy and Shaquille O'Neal reigned as this year's favorites, winning top honors at Nickelodeon's 2011 Kids' Choice Awards live telecast, Saturday, April 2, 8-9:30 p.m. (ET/tape delayed for West Coast).  Hosted by actor/comedian Jack Black and broadcast from the Galen Center at USC in Los Angeles, kids' top choices in television, movies, music and sports were revealed via slime slushie, cheerleader and a bear on a unicycle.  Black proved that nothing was going to get in the way of his arriving at the venue – especially not a long limo line – by making a grand entrance in the Kids' Choice monster truck.  With the help of a dancing flash mob along the orange carpet, he kicked off the slime-fest with a rockin' rendition of The Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling."  The KCA and Grammy Award-winning chart toppers then took center stage with a medley of hit songs "Just Can't Get Enough" and "The Time" featuring Black, the honorary Pea.

Disneynature’s plans to work with the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) to “Save the Savanna” have gone viral. As the April 22 opening of the awe-inspiring “African Cats” approaches, Disneynature is tapping into the true power of social media by building awareness of its “See ‘African Cats,’ Save the Savanna” program. Disney FamilyFun Announces Winners of the Sixth-Annual National Volunteers Contest: School Edition - (DL) (4/1/2011)

Families and classrooms across the country are giving back to their communities through lessons in giving, whether they're collecting bottles to fund an art program or making sandwiches to feed the hungry. Disney FamilyFun is celebrating these efforts to make a difference at the local level through the sixth-annual FamilyFun Volunteers Contest, a national search for families and, this year, schools demonstrating their commitment, results, and teamwork.  The winners will receive a total of $25,000 in donations towards their charity of choice and are featured in the April issue of FamilyFun magazine and on FamilyFun.com. 

Australian Production of Mary Poppins Plays Finale Performance in Melbourne on April 1 - (DL) (4/1/2011)

Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s beloved Australian production of MARY POPPINS will play its final performance in Melbourne at Her Majesty’s Theatre on Friday, April 1 before moving the entire production to the Capitol Theatre in Sydney, beginning Sunday, April 17  for a May 5^th opening.  The Melbourne production of MARY POPPINS premiered on Thursday, July 29, 2010, opening to critical acclaim and welcoming more than 500,000 theatergoers.  When the curtain comes down on the final Melbourne show, MARY POPPINS will have played to 100% capacity at each of its 299 performances.
