Events and Merchandise to celebrate Disneyland's 45th Anniversary

Disneyland 45th Anniversary Celebration Set For July; Special Merchandise Goes On Sale; Cast Gathering Set For July 17

The Happiest Place on Earth will mark its 45th Anniversary on July 17, and Disneyland is planning a month's worth of festivities, highlighted by a private gathering of Cast Members and Disneyland Characters on Main Street, U.S.A.

In addition to the Main Street celebration set to take place before Disneyland opens to Guests on July 17, a variety of special Anniversary gift opportunities for collectors and Disneyland fans is planned throughout the month, including Anniversary pins and watches, a "challenge" for guests who think they can find the locations of past attractions, and a reunion of Disneyland Imagineers on July 15.

Events get underway on Saturday, July 1, with the introduction of the latest in the yearlong Disneyland Anniversary "Character of the Month" program. The honoree for July is Donald Duck, and limited edition lithographs and pins, as well as collectible coins and other merchandise honoring Donald, will be available at Disneyana on Main Street, U.S.A.

Sunday, July 2, inaugurates an in-Park "challenge" which will continue to entertain adventurous Disneyland trivia fans through Saturday, July 30. A special 45th Anniversary Tour Map (designed by veteran Imagineer Sam McKim) will be on sale at shops throughout Disneyland and The Disneyland Resort Hotels. The map challenges guests to find and visit the former locations of five retired or relocated attractions. Guests who go to the correct locations can have their maps stamped at each location. When they have all five stamps, they can go to one of the in-Park redemption locations to receive a special commemorative Disneyland 45th Anniversary pin.

On July 15, from 1:30 to 4 p.m., a rare gathering of Walt Disney Imagineers will take place at The Disney Gallery, New Orleans Square, Disneyland. Tony Baxter, Peter Ellenshaw, Blaine Gibson, John Hench, Sam McKim and Nina Rae Vaughn will appear in person to sign a special 45th Anniversary lithograph, "Triptych Map," depicting three different Disneyland Park maps, past and present.

Finally, on the 45th Anniversary date, July 17, following the early morning Cast Member gathering, a special 45th Anniversary artisan watch will be available for purchase by Disneyland guests, one day only, at New Century Timepieces, New Century Jewelry and Disneyana, all on Main Street, U.S.A. The watch face will feature a unique "retro" design recalling the original illustrations that introduced the world to Walt Disney's Disneyland concept via the original "Disneyland" TV show. These special watches will be available for purchase at the Park on July 17 only, but may be pre-purchased by phone, July 5 through 16, by calling Disneyland DelivEARS at (800) 362-4533.

Of course, in July and throughout this 45th Anniversary year, the Disneyland celebration a!so features daily performances of the spectacular "45 Years of Magic ... Parade of the Stars" and the exciting new after-dark pyrotechnic "skytacular," "Believe: There's Magic in the Stars."
