Special Dining Offers at Animal Kingdom Lodge's Jiko
The Official Disney Parks Blog reports the fhe following dining events at Animal Kingdom's Lodge Jiko restaurant:
May 4 – Post House Winery with Nick Geber. The Post House farm is in one of the preeminent wineries in South Africa’s Stellenbosch region. June 8 – Featuring Alex Dale, founder of Radford Dale Wines with Vinum vintages from the Stellenbosch region. June 15 – Ken Forrester Wines from the slopes of Helderberg Mountain in the heart of the Stellenbosch region, often referred to as the home of Chenin Blanc and other award-winning wines. September (date to be announced) – Mulderbosch Vineyards featuring from the Stellenbosch area, featuring winemaker Richard Kershaw who creates handcrafted and individual wines October 27 – Robin Back with popular Spice Route and Fairview Winery in the Paarl wine district of South Africa. (This dinner is part of the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival events.) All dinners are five courses and cost $135 except for October, when dinner is seven courses and $180. NAUMD Announces the Best Uniforms of the Year at 2010 Including Two from Disney
The North American Association of Uniform Manufacturers and Distributors (NAUMD) announced the winners of the Image of the Year Awards and Best Dressed Public Safety Awards during the 2010 NAUMD Convention & Expo in Las Vegas. These award programs recognize high achievement in the design, creation and manufacture of imagewear apparel. The Disney winners were Sanaa at Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Wide World of Sports.

Holiday fun at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge
The craft-making is a popular holiday activity at the African-themed resort with donations going to the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund, which supports conservation projects throughout the world. Last year the month-long activity collected more than $10,000 in donations. (A $5 donation per ornament is suggested.)

Happy Mother's Day from the Wild Bunch of Mom's at Disney's Animal Kingdom
Several new mothers are celebrating Mother's Day at Walt Disney World a bit differently than the typical vacationing guest. For starters, they aren’t on vacation. They live at Disney's Animal Kingdom and Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. And they won’t be having Sunday dinner in any of the popular Disney restaurants. But despite the things these mothers do differently – because they are an elephant, a monkey and a vulture – one thing is the same: the strong mother/baby bond as the new babies learn about their environment. Animal Operations Director, Matt Hohne, introduces the babies including Tsavo the African elephant, Zahra the Colobus monkey and two Ruppell's Griffon Vulture chicks.

As part of the Kidani Village expansion of Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, diners are treated to a new restaurant - Sanaa. The menu in the 150-seat, family-oriented restaurant reflects the art of African cooking with Indian flavors. Pronounced "Sah-NAH," the restaurant boasts interiors inspired by African art and remarkable views to a savannah of free-roaming animals. New Sanaa Indian menu offensive?
Restaurant critic Scott Joseph has posted menus for Sanaa, Disney's Indian restaurant tha will be opening at the Animal Kingdom Lodge on May 1st. He also has some comentary on what he sees. An excerpt...
True, I haven't tasted the food yet, so perhaps there is a chance for authentic seasonings. So what makes me think that won't happen? The lunch menu has beef short ribs, grilled angus chuck burger and grilled pork chop. On the dinner menu there's also a New York strip.
Most Indians are either Hindu or Muslim. Cows are, of course, sacred to Hindus. And to Muslims, pigs are considered to be unclean animals and should not be eaten. At least the Culinears at Disney chose to offend both dominant sects.

Sanaa Brings Flavors of India, Africa To Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge May 1st
Fans of Jiko-The Cooking Place and Boma-Flavors of Africa have a new reason to dine at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge as Sanaa debuts May 1 in the resort’s new Kidani Village expansion. The new Walt Disney World restaurant’s unusual name, pronounced “Sah-NAH,” is the Swahili word for “artwork.” With interiors inspired by African art and remarkable views of the resort’s Sunset Savannah through 9-foot windows, diners experience “the art of African cooking with Indian flavors” in the 150-seat, family-oriented restaurant located on the ground floor just below the lobby.

You can paint for own Ostrich egg on Sunday, April 12 in Simba’s Cubhouse at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. There is a limited number of Ostrich eggs and are available on a first come, first served basis. The cost to paint your own Ostrich egg is a $30 donation to Disney’s Wildlife Conservation Fund.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Welcomes Fourth Baby Giraffe This Year
Walt Disney World Resort is having a bit of a baby boom this year with the birth of a fourth baby giraffe. Entering the world at 6-feet tall and 155 pounds, Bonsu delighted members of the animal programs team at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in the early morning hours, Sunday September 28. Bonsu’s name is inspired from the Akan language in Ghana and means biggest and strongest fish in the sea. He is the fourth male, and 11th giraffe overall, born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom since the park opened in 1998. He is also the second calf for his mother Nikki, whose first offspring, a female named Rori was born in 2006. She can be seen today on the savannah at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.
