The Walt Disney Company and Electronic Arts Inc. have announced a new multi-year exclusive licensing agreement to develop and publish globally new games based on Star Wars characters and storylines.
Disney Interactive today announced that “Disney’s Planes,” a flying adventure video game inspired by the upcoming Disney animated comedy adventure film, will be available exclusively for Nintendo platforms including the Wii™ and Wii U™ systems as well as the Nintendo 3DS™ and Nintendo DS™ handheld devices on August 6th, just a few days prior to the film’s August 9thopening in theaters nationwide. The game will expand beyond the storyline of “Disney’s Planes,” offering players the opportunity to enjoy the thrill of flight as one of the popular characters from the film.
The Official Disney Interactive Tumblr has started a behind-the-scenes look at Disney Infinity. The first in the series, "Creating Disney Infinity", Disney leaders and creatives from across the company including John Lasseter, Lee Unkrich and Avalanche Software’s John Blackburn open up about Disney Infinity’s origins and Disney’s heritage of storytelling, creativity and exploration.
Prominent online game designer Raph Koster announced he was leaving Playdom and Disney today. Koster has worked for Disney since they acquired Playdom in 2010.
AppleInsider.com writes Lodsys, a company that has been suing app makers over alleged licensing fees since 2011, is now suing Disney claiming they've wrongfully infringed on one of their patents.
Five months after Disney acquired LucasFilm for $4.05 billion, Disney has decided to shut down the company's game creation studio LucasArts which has been making games for 31 years. The New York Times writes Disney Infinity, Disney's upcoming video game and toy initiative, has been offiially delayed from June to late August. According to the article, retailers who were impressed with the public reaction to teh demonstration pushed for the move to put it closer to the holiday season.
