Disney to Launch Broadcast Disney Channel in Russia

Disney is launching a free, broadcast version of the Disney Channel in Russia next year. They will be acquiring a 49% stake in Seven TV network allowing it to broadcast in 54 urban markets as well as rural areas.

Disney Channel Star Mitchel Musso Charged with DUI

Disney Channel Star Mitchel Musso, best known for his work on Hannah Montana and currently on Disney's Pair of Kings and Prank Stars, was charged with DUI on October 16th with a blood-alcohol level more than .08 even though he is under 21.

Head of the Disney Channel Resigns

Deadline.com reports Carolina Lightcap has resigned as president of Disney Channel Worldwide. Lightcap was named to the position after Richard Ross was promoted to the head of the Disney Studios. Lightcap's replacement will be Gary Marsh who was the creative head of the Disney Channel.

Jack and the Never Land Pirates Releases First Soundtrack and DVD This Fall

Disney XD Orders New Live-Action Comedy Series "Lab Rats"

Disney XD has ordered "Lab Rats," a live-action comedy about a teenager, Leo, who discovers three teen super-humans with bionic powers in the basement of his home, which he shares with his mom, Tasha, and inventor stepdad, Donald Davenport. The bionic trio soon convince Leo to take them along to high school so they too can experience normal life. The multi-camera series, a companion to Disney XD's hit series "Kickin' It," will begin production in Hollywood in September for a 2012 premiere on Disney XD.

Disney Debuts "Shake It Up" Merchandise Line For Tweens

Disney Consumer Products (DCP) today announced the first merchandising program inspired by Disney Channel's hit buddy comedy series Shake It Up. Since January 2011 to date, Shake It Up is TV's #1 series with Kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14.* The hit show centers on CeCe and Rocky, played by Bella Thorne and Zendaya, whose dreams of becoming professional dancers are realized when they land roles on a popular teen dance show. The new merchandise program for tweens plays up the characters' dancing lifestyle and energy of the show and features a unique collaboration with Mattel and fashion collections at Target, K-Mart, Sears, Payless, JCPenney, Kohl's, and Macy's. The new products will begin arriving in stores this August through the holiday season.

Disney XD Launches in Canada

Disney XD, the new digital specialty channel and multiplatform brand from Astral Media Inc. (TSX: ACM.A/ACM.B) launches today in homes across Canada. Available in high definition, Disney XD will launch with Rogers Communications, Bell Satellite TV, Bell Fibe TV, EastLink and Delta Cable. Disney XD will be available through TELUS as of June 20, with additional distributors expected to offer the new kids' channel in the coming months.
