Disneyland Resort Chef Andrew Sutton Comes in Second at Skuna Bay Chef Challenge at Kentucky Derby
As someone who used to really enjoy Andrew Sutton's restaurant Napa Rose when I lived in California, I really appreciated this story from the Official Disney Parks Blog. In fact, one of my best Napa Rose memories is the time Sutton personally cooked my dinner as I'm vegetarian and just requested whatever vegetarian pasta the chef felt like making, and I watched him make it. Anyway...
In a super-close competition, Chef Andrew Sutton from Napa Rose at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spawas edged out today by Chicago Chef Carlo Lamagna for top honors in the Skuna Bay Chef Challenge at the legendary “Taste of Derby” at the Kentucky Derby.
It’s a long road from Southern California to Churchill Downs Racetrack in Louisville, Ky., and Sutton started competing in March in North American regionals, sponsored by Skuna Bay Salmon. Thirty chefs entered their most impressive Skuna Bay salmon recipes, and Sutton was a regional winner. In April, the winning regional chefs went head-to-head in Round 2 in competitions in Los Angeles and Chicago. Sutton again was victorious.
The finals for “National Skuna Bay Craftsman Chef” were this week in Louisville, with Sutton going up against Chef Carlo Lamagna from Perennial Virant in Chicago. At each stage of the competition, Sutton crafted the same beautiful dish: an elegant, use-all-of-the-fish trio that included tangerine-cured salmon belly sashimi; a pan-roasted fillet with crispy skin on an English pea coulis, topped with house-cured salmon roe and Eureka lemon; and an escabéche featuring fresh salmon cut in perfect miniature cubes and tossed with cucumber, mint and cilantro. Each round started by breaking down and filleting a 10- to 12-pound Skuna Bay salmon. (Skuna Bay is along Vancouver Island, British Columbia, where waters are glacier-fed and the fish used in their feed is from sustainably certified fisheries.)
Along with competing in the prestigious culinary contest, Sutton gets a primo seat for Saturday’s Kentucky Derby.
He offered his winning creation at Napa Rose before the contest, practicing to get it perfect. And we bet you’ll find it back on the restaurant’s menu.

Joffrey’s Coffee & Tea Co the Official Specialty Coffee of WDW and Disneyland
Joffrey's Coffee & Tea Co. and Disney have entered into a long-term agreement that makes them the official specialty coffee of Walt Disney World, Disneyland Resort and Disney Vacation Club. The agreement includes Aulani but does not include the Disney Cruise Line. Joffrey's is the company that has operated the standalone coffee and pastry kiosks throughout Walt Disney World since 1995. They have also supplied the espresso and specialty coffee blends for the Signature dining restaurants at WDW and Disneyland. Their French Roast will be the Joffrey's specialty coffee orffered at quick-service and table service restaurants. The agreement does not affect Disney's previous agreement that allows Starbucks to open a sinlge location in each park and serve their coffee there.

Starbucks Coming to Disney Parks (POLL)

Today, we’re excited to officially announce plans to bring your favorite Starbucks drinks and food items to all of our theme parks at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort.
In June, the first of six planned Starbucks locations is scheduled to open at Disney California Adventure park. And more locations are planned at Disneyland park and Walt Disney World Resort (Magic Kingdom Park, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom).
The Starbucks locations inside our parks will be designed to fit the theme of their surroundings. At Disney California Adventure park, Starbucks will be located in the Fiddler, Fifer and Practical Café on Buena Vista Street, a place that transports guests to 1920s Los Angeles, when Walt Disney arrived in California and a cup of coffee was the perfect way to jumpstart a busy day. The store’s location plays off the Spanish/Mexican architecture of the period, and baristas will wear 1920s-inspired attire.
The café will serve Starbucks items, including coffee and espresso beverages, Frappuccino® blended beverages, and signature breakfast sandwiches and pastries. Guests also will have their choice of Disney favorites, including signature sandwiches and other items, as well as delicious desserts and sweet treats.
